耶稣回答：“我的国不属于这个世界。如果我的国属于这个世界，我的仆人们早就会争战，不让我被交给那些犹太人。但如今，我的国不在这里。”

耶稣看出他们要来强迫他做王，就又独自退到山上去了。到了晚上，他的门徒们下到湖边。他们上了船，开始渡过湖往迦百农去。原来天色已经黑了，而耶稣还没有来到他们那里。当时，大风吹起，湖水翻腾。他们已经划了约有四、五公里，看到耶稣在湖面上行走，逐渐向船靠近，他们就感到惧怕。耶稣对他们说：“是我，不要怕！”门徒们这才愿意接他上船。船立刻就到了他们所要去的地方。

耶稣随即催促他的门徒们上船，要他们先往对岸的伯赛达去；这期间，他自己遣散了人群。他告别了他们，就上山去祷告。到了晚上，船在湖中，只有耶稣一个人在岸上。他看见门徒们由于逆风，划船非常艰苦。天快亮的时候，耶稣在湖面上行走，向他们而去，想要从他们旁边走过去。门徒们看见耶稣在湖面上行走，以为是幽灵，于是喊叫起来，因为他们都看见了他，就惊慌不安。耶稣立刻与他们讲话，对他们说：“鼓起勇气吧！是我，不要怕。”接着，耶稣上了船和他们在一起。这时候风就停了。门徒们心里感到极其惊讶，因为他们不领悟分饼的事，他们还是硬着心。

耶稣的弟弟们对他说：“你离开这里到犹太去吧，好让你的门徒们也能看到你所做的事。因为人不会又想要出名，又在隐秘中做事。你既然要做这些事，就把自己显明给世人看吧！”

耶稣立刻催促门徒们上船，要他们先往对岸去；这期间，他自己遣散了人群。他遣散了人群以后，就独自上山去祷告。到了晚上，只有他一个人在那里。那时，船已经离岸有几百公尺，由于逆风，被波浪冲击。天快亮的时候，耶稣在湖面上行走，向他们而去。门徒们看见耶稣在湖面上行走，就惊慌不安，说：“是幽灵！”他们害怕得喊叫起来。耶稣立刻对他们说：“鼓起勇气吧！是我，不要怕。”彼得对他说：“主啊，如果是你，请吩咐我，从水面上走到你那里去。”耶稣说：“你来吧！”彼得就从船上下去，在水面上行走向耶稣那里去。但是，他一看到风极大，就惧怕起来，开始往下沉，于是呼叫说：“主啊，救救我！”耶稣立刻伸手拉住他，说：“小信的人哪，你为什么疑惑呢？”他们一上船，风就停了。船上的人都拜耶稣，说：“你真是神的儿子！”

前行后随的人都呼喊：“和散那！奉主名而来的那一位——是蒙祝福的！

说：“奉主名而来的那位君王，是蒙祝福的！在天上有和平，在至高之处有荣耀！”

第二天，一大群上来过节的人听说耶稣要来到耶路撒冷，就拿着棕榈树枝出去迎接他，欢呼说：“和散那！奉主名而来的那一位，以色列的王啊，是蒙祝福的！”耶稣找来一头驴驹，骑在上面，正如经上所记：“锡安的女儿啊，不要怕！看哪，你的王骑着驴驹来了！”

耶稣上了山，与他的门徒们在那里坐下。

但耶稣自己却信不过他们，因为他了解所有的人。他也不需要谁来见证人的事，因为他知道人里面是什么。

并且被造之物在神面前，没有一样不是显明的；万有在他眼前，都是赤裸敞开的；我们都要向他交代。

“我不接受从人而来的荣耀。
