Immediately he made his disciples get into the boat and go ahead of him to the other side, to Bethsaida, while he dismissed the crowd.After he said good-bye to them, he went away to the mountain to pray.Well into the night, the boat was in the middle of the sea, and he was alone on the land.He saw them straining at the oars, because the wind was against them. Very early in the morning he came toward them walking on the sea and wanted to pass by them.When they saw him walking on the sea, they thought it was a ghost and cried out,because they all saw him and were terrified. Immediately he spoke with them and said,“ Have courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”Then he got into the boat with them, and the wind ceased. They were completely astounded,because they had not understood about the loaves. Instead, their hearts were hardened.

So his brothers said to him,“ Leave here and go to Judea so that your disciples can see your works that you are doing.For no one does anything in secret while he’s seeking public recognition. If you do these things, show yourself to the world.”

Immediately he made the disciples get into the boat and go ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds.After dismissing the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. Well into the night, he was there alone.Meanwhile, the boat was already some distance from land, battered by the waves, because the wind was against them.Jesus came toward them walking on the sea very early in the morning.When the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified.“ It’s a ghost!” they said, and they cried out in fear.Immediately Jesus spoke to them.“ Have courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”“ Lord, if it’s you,” Peter answered him,“ command me to come to you on the water.”He said,“ Come.” And climbing out of the boat, Peter started walking on the water and came toward Jesus.But when he saw the strength of the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out,“ Lord, save me!”Immediately Jesus reached out his hand, caught hold of him, and said to him,“ You of little faith, why did you doubt?”When they got into the boat, the wind ceased.Then those in the boat worshiped him and said,“ Truly you are the Son of God.”

Those who went ahead and those who followed shouted: Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!

Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord. Peace in heaven and glory in the highest heaven!

The next day, when the large crowd that had come to the festival heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,they took palm branches and went out to meet him. They kept shouting:“ Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord— the King of Israel!”Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written:Do not be afraid, Daughter Zion. Look, your King is coming, sitting on a donkey’s colt.

Jesus went up a mountain and sat down there with his disciples.

Jesus, however, would not entrust himself to them, since he knew them alland because he did not need anyone to testify about man; for he himself knew what was in man.

No creature is hidden from him, but all things are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give an account.
