Jesus, knowing that they intended to come and make him king by force, withdrew again to a mountain by himself.

Immediately Jesus made his disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to Bethsaida, while he dismissed the crowd.After leaving them, he went up on a mountainside to pray.Later that night, the boat was in the middle of the lake, and he was alone on land.He saw the disciples straining at the oars, because the wind was against them. Shortly before dawn he went out to them, walking on the lake. He was about to pass by them,but when they saw him walking on the lake, they thought he was a ghost. They cried out,because they all saw him and were terrified. Immediately he spoke to them and said,“ Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”Then he climbed into the boat with them, and the wind died down. They were completely amazed,for they had not understood about the loaves; their hearts were hardened. (niv)

Jesus’ brothers said to him,“ Leave Galilee and go to Judea, so that your disciples there may see the works you do.No one who wants to become a public figure acts in secret. Since you are doing these things, show yourself to the world.” (niv)

Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd.After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone,and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake.When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified.“ It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear.But Jesus immediately said to them:“ Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”“ Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied,“ tell me to come to you on the water.”“ Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus.But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out,“ Lord, save me!”Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him.“ You of little faith,” he said,“ why did you doubt?”And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down.Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying,“ Truly you are the Son of God.” (niv)

Those who went ahead and those who followed shouted,“ Hosanna!”“ Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” (niv)

The next day the great crowd that had come for the festival heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem.They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting,“ Hosanna!”“ Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”“ Blessed is the king of Israel!”Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, as it is written:“ Do not be afraid, Daughter Zion; see, your king is coming, seated on a donkey’s colt.” (niv)

Then Jesus went up on a mountainside and sat down with his disciples. (niv)

But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all people.He did not need any testimony about mankind, for he knew what was in each person. (niv)
