When Jesus returned to Capernaum several days later, the news spread quickly that he was back home.Soon the house where he was staying was so packed with visitors that there was no more room, even outside the door. While he was preaching God’s word to them,four men arrived carrying a paralyzed man on a mat.

When Bartimaeus heard that Jesus of Nazareth was nearby, he began to shout,“ Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”

But the believers had heard that Peter was nearby at Lydda, so they sent two men to beg him,“ Please come as soon as possible!”

When Mary arrived and saw Jesus, she fell at his feet and said,“ Lord, if only you had been here, my brother would not have died.”

and they ran throughout the whole area, carrying sick people on mats to wherever they heard he was.Wherever he went— in villages, cities, or the countryside— they brought the sick out to the marketplaces. They begged him to let the sick touch at least the fringe of his robe, and all who touched him were healed.

Martha said to Jesus,“ Lord, if only you had been here, my brother would not have died.

So Jesus went with them. But just before they arrived at the house, the officer sent some friends to say,“ Lord, don’t trouble yourself by coming to my home, for I am not worthy of such an honor.I am not even worthy to come and meet you. Just say the word from where you are, and my servant will be healed.I know this because I am under the authority of my superior officers, and I have authority over my soldiers. I only need to say,‘ Go,’ and they go, or‘ Come,’ and they come. And if I say to my slaves,‘ Do this,’ they do it.”
