蓋行為不正者、必惡真光、而莫敢與之近、惟恐其行為之見燭也。

Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed.

那暗昧無益的事，不可參與，倒要把這種事揭發出來。因為，他們暗中所做的，就是連提起來都是可恥的。凡被光所照明的都顯露出來，

世人不會恨你們，卻是恨我，因為我指證他們的行為是惡的。

因為他們恨惡知識，選擇不敬畏耶和華，

因為只聽道而不行道的，就像人對着鏡子觀看自己本來的面目，注視後，就離開，立刻忘了自己的相貌如何。惟有查看那完美、使人自由的律法，並且時常遵守的，他不是聽了就忘，而是切實行出來，這樣的人在所行的事上必然蒙福。

「又有人背棄光明，不認識光明的道，不留在光明的路上。殺人者黎明起來，殺害困苦人和貧窮人，夜間又作盜賊。姦夫的眼等候黃昏，說：『沒有眼睛能見我』，就把臉蒙住。盜賊黑夜挖洞；他們白日躲藏，並不認識光明。他們全都看早晨如死蔭，因為他們熟悉死蔭的驚駭。

但義人的路好像黎明的光，越照越明，直到正午。

你們怨恨那在城門口斷是非的，憎惡那說正直話的。所以，因你們踐踏貧寒人，向他們勒索糧稅；你們雖建造石鑿的房屋，卻不得住在其內；雖栽植美好的葡萄園，卻不得喝其中所出的酒。

其實你恨惡管教，將我的言語拋在腦後。

以色列王對約沙法說：「還有一個人，是音拉的兒子米該雅，我們可以託他求問耶和華。只是我真的很恨他，因為他對我說預言，從不說吉言，總是說凶信。」約沙法說：「請王不要這麼說。」

律法師中有一個回答耶穌，說：「老師，你這樣說也把我們侮辱了。」

說：「我為何恨惡管教，心裏輕看責備呢？

傲慢人不愛受責備，也不去接近智慧人。
