人未有見天主者、惟聖父懷中之惟一聖子、實已表而出之矣。

惟書此數事、庶幾爾等篤信耶穌即是基督、天主聖子。爾等既能篤信、必得仰賴厥名以獲永生。

蓋我父之意、欲使凡見子而信之者、咸獲永生；而令予復活之於末日也。』

況辜負偌大之救恩、其能僥倖於萬一耶？此救恩自始為主所親傳、而親炙之者又為吾人闡述、鑿鑿有據；

信仰聖子者、獲永生；不順聖子者、無以望生、天主譴怒、恆臨其身。』
