Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up,

Moses lifted up the snake in the desert. In the same way, the Son of Man must also be lifted up.

And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up,

And as Moses lifted up the bronze snake on a pole in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up,

百姓到摩西那裏，說：「我們有罪了，因為我們向耶和華和你發怨言。求你向耶和華禱告，叫蛇離開我們。」於是摩西為百姓禱告。耶和華對摩西說：「你要造一條火蛇，掛在杆子上。凡被咬的，一望這蛇就必存活。」摩西就造了一條銅蛇，掛在杆子上。凡被蛇咬的，一望這銅蛇就活了。

所以耶穌說：「你們舉起人子以後就會知道我就是那位了，並且知道我沒有一件事是憑着自己做的。我說這些話是照着父所教導我的。

我從地上被舉起來的時候，我要吸引萬人來歸我。」耶穌這話是指自己將要怎樣死說的。眾人就回答他：「我們聽見律法書上說，基督是永存的；你怎麼說，人子必須被舉起來呢？這人子是誰呢？」

希律和本丟‧彼拉多，同外邦人和以色列民，果然在這城裏聚集，要攻打你所膏的聖僕耶穌，做了你手和你旨意所預定必成就的事。

若是這樣，經上所說事情必須如此發生的話怎麼應驗呢？」

耶穌對他們說：「這就是我從前和你們同在時所告訴你們的話：摩西的律法、先知的書，和《詩篇》上所記一切指着我的話都必須應驗。」於是耶穌開他們的心竅，使他們能明白聖經，又對他們說：「照經上所寫的，基督必受害，第三天從死人中復活，

耶穌把十二使徒帶到一邊，對他們說：「看哪，我們上耶路撒冷去，先知所寫的一切事都要成就在人子身上。他將被交給外邦人；他們要戲弄他，凌辱他，向他吐唾沫，並要鞭打他，殺害他；第三天他要復活。」

犬類圍着我，惡黨環繞我；他們扎了我的手、我的腳。

他廢去丘壇，毀壞柱像，砍下亞舍拉，打碎摩西所造的銅蛇，因為到那時以色列人仍向銅蛇燒香。人叫銅蛇為尼忽士但。

他既按着神確定的旨意和預知被交與人，你們就藉着不法之人的手把他釘在十字架上，殺了。

基督不是必須受這些苦難，然後進入他的榮耀嗎？」於是，他從摩西和眾先知起，凡經上所指着自己的話都給他們作了解釋。

祭司長們和我們的官長竟把他解去，定了死罪，釘在十字架上。
