Simon Peter said to him,“ Lord, where are you going?” Jesus answered,“ Where I am going, you can’t follow now, but you will follow afterwards.”Peter said to him,“ Lord, why can’t I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you.”

But he said this, signifying by what kind of death he should die.

according to my earnest expectation and hope, that I will in no way be disappointed, but with all boldness, as always, now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death.

But he, turning around, and seeing his disciples, rebuked Peter, and said,“ Get behind me, Satan! For you have in mind not the things of God, but the things of men.”He called the multitude to himself with his disciples, and said to them,“ Whoever wants to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.For whoever wants to save his life will lose it; and whoever will lose his life for my sake and the sake of the Good News will save it.For what does it profit a man, to gain the whole world, and forfeit his life?For what will a man give in exchange for his life?For whoever will be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man also will be ashamed of him, when he comes in his Father’s glory, with the holy angels.”

saying,“ The Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up.”He said to all,“ If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever will lose his life for my sake, will save it.For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses or forfeits his own self?For whoever will be ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed, when he comes in his glory, and the glory of the Father, and of the holy angels.

Samuel said to the people,“ Don’t be afraid. You have indeed done all this evil; yet don’t turn away from following Yahweh, but serve Yahweh with all your heart.

From that time, Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up.Peter took him aside, and began to rebuke him, saying,“ Far be it from you, Lord! This will never be done to you.”But he turned, and said to Peter,“ Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me, for you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of men.”Then Jesus said to his disciples,“ If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, and whoever will lose his life for my sake will find it.

If anyone speaks, let it be as it were the very words of God. If anyone serves, let it be as of the strength which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.Beloved, don’t be astonished at the fiery trial which has come upon you to test you, as though a strange thing happened to you.But because you are partakers of Christ’s sufferings, rejoice, that at the revelation of his glory you also may rejoice with exceeding joy.If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed; because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. On their part he is blasphemed, but on your part he is glorified.

that the word of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spoke, signifying by what kind of death he should die.

If anyone serves me, let him follow me. Where I am, there my servant will also be. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.

Jesus said to them,“ Most certainly I tell you that you who have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of Man will sit on the throne of his glory, you also will sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and has followed me fully, him I will bring into the land into which he went. His offspring shall possess it.
