Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then he said to him,“ Follow me!”

knowing that the laying aside of my earthly dwelling is imminent, as also our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me.

Jesus* said to him,“ If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow Me!”

And the one who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.

Simon Peter* said to Him,“ Lord, where are You going?” Jesus answered,“ Where I am going, you cannot follow Me now; but you will follow later.”Peter* said to Him,“ Lord, why can I not follow You right now? I will lay down my life for You.”

Now He was saying this to indicate what kind of death He was going to die.

according to my eager expectation and hope, that I will not be put to shame in anything, but that with all boldness, Christ will even now, as always, be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death.

But turning around and seeing His disciples, He rebuked Peter and* said,“ Get behind Me, Satan; for you are not setting your mind on God’s purposes, but on man’s.”And He summoned the crowd together with His disciples, and said to them,“ If anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me.For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it.For what does it benefit a person to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul?For what could a person give in exchange for his soul?For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”

saying,“ The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed and be raised on the third day.”And He was saying to them all,“ If anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow Me.For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake, this is the one who will save it.For what good does it do a person if he gains the whole world, but loses or forfeits himself?For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when He comes in His glory and the glory of the Father and the holy angels.

Samuel said to the people,“ Do not fear. You have committed all this evil, yet do not turn aside from following the Lord, but serve the Lord with all your heart.

From that time Jesus began to point out to His disciples that it was necessary for Him to go to Jerusalem and to suffer many things from the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and to be killed, and to be raised up on the third day.And yet Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying,“ God forbid it, Lord! This shall never happen to You!”But He turned and said to Peter,“ Get behind Me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me; for you are not setting your mind on God’s purposes, but men’s.”Then Jesus said to His disciples,“ If anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me.For whoever wants to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.

Whoever speaks is to do so as one who is speaking actual words of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though something strange were happening to you;but to the degree that you share the sufferings of Christ, keep on rejoicing, so that at the revelation of His glory you may also rejoice and be overjoyed.If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory, and of God, rests upon you.

This happened so that the word of Jesus which He said, indicating what kind of death He was going to die, would be fulfilled.

If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also; if anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him.

And Jesus said to them,“ Truly I say to you, that you who have followed Me, in the regeneration when the Son of Man will sit on His glorious throne, you also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

But as for My servant Caleb, because he has had a different spirit and has followed Me fully, I will bring him into the land which he entered, and his descendants shall take possession of it.
