The third time he said to him,“ Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time,“ Do you love me?” He said,“ Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said,“ Feed my sheep.

He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of John, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

He asked him the third time,“ Simon, son of John, do you love Me?” Peter was grieved that He asked him the third time,“ Do you love Me?” He said,“ Lord, You know everything! You know that I love You.”“ Feed My sheep,” Jesus said.

He saith unto him the third time, Simon,[ son] of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

Jesus said a third time,“ Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was distressed that Jesus asked him a third time,“ Do you love me?” and said,“ Lord, you know everything. You know that I love you.” Jesus replied,“ Feed my sheep.

Now we know that you know all things, and don’t need for anyone to question you. By this we believe that you came from God.”

The rooster crowed the second time. Peter remembered the word, how that Jesus said to him,“ Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.” When he thought about that, he wept.

Jesus answered him,“ Will you lay down your life for me? Most certainly I tell you, the rooster won’t crow until you have denied me three times.

So when they had eaten their breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter,“ Simon, son of Jonah, do you love me more than these?” He said to him,“ Yes, Lord; you know that I have affection for you.” He said to him,“ Feed my lambs.”He said to him again a second time,“ Simon, son of Jonah, do you love me?” He said to him,“ Yes, Lord; you know that I have affection for you.” He said to him,“ Tend my sheep.”

I will kill her children with Death, and all the assemblies will know that I am he who searches the minds and hearts. I will give to each one of you according to your deeds.

For though I grieved you with my letter, I do not regret it, though I did regret it. For I see that my letter made you grieve, though just for a while.I now rejoice, not that you were grieved, but that you were grieved to repentance. For you were grieved in a godly way, that you might suffer loss by us in nothing.For godly sorrow produces repentance to salvation, which brings no regret. But the sorrow of the world produces death.For behold, this same thing, that you were grieved in a godly way, what earnest care it worked in you. Yes, what defense, indignation, fear, longing, zeal, and vengeance! In everything you demonstrated yourselves to be pure in the matter.

For our boasting is this: the testimony of our conscience, that in holiness and sincerity of God, not in fleshly wisdom but in the grace of God we behaved ourselves in the world, and more abundantly toward you.

The Lord turned and looked at Peter. Then Peter remembered the Lord’s word, how he said to him,“ Before the rooster crows you will deny me three times.”He went out, and wept bitterly.

Jesus therefore, knowing all the things that were happening to him, went out, and said to them,“ Who are you looking for?”

Doesn’t he see my ways, and count all my steps?“ If I have walked with falsehood, and my foot has hurried to deceit( let me be weighed in an even balance, that God may know my integrity);

This is now, beloved, the second letter that I have written to you; and in both of them I stir up your sincere mind by reminding you,

Don’t grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

For he does not afflict willingly, nor grieve the children of men.

“ I, Yahweh, search the mind. I try the heart, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings.”

I speak not by way of commandment, but as proving through the earnestness of others the sincerity also of your love.For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that you through his poverty might become rich.

“ The Mighty One, God, Yahweh, the Mighty One, God, Yahweh, he knows; and Israel shall know: if it was in rebellion, or if in trespass against Yahweh( don’t save us today),

For you always have the poor with you, but you don’t always have me.”

Yahweh administers judgment to the peoples. Judge me, Yahweh, according to my righteousness, and to my integrity that is in me.Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end, but establish the righteous; their minds and hearts are searched by the righteous God.

For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote to you with many tears, not that you should be made to grieve, but that you might know the love that I have so abundantly for you.But if any has caused sorrow, he has caused sorrow, not to me, but in part( that I not press too heavily) to you all.This punishment which was inflicted by the many is sufficient for such a one;so that on the contrary you should rather forgive him and comfort him, lest by any means such a one should be swallowed up with his excessive sorrow.

They prayed and said,“ You, Lord, who know the hearts of all men, show which one of these two you have chosen

God, who knows the heart, testified about them, giving them the Holy Spirit, just like he did to us.

Therefore I will not be negligent to remind you of these things, though you know them, and are established in the present truth.I think it right, as long as I am in this tent, to stir you up by reminding you,knowing that the putting off of my tent comes swiftly, even as our Lord Jesus Christ made clear to me.Yes, I will make every effort that you may always be able to remember these things even after my departure.

If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and remain in his love.

She said to Elijah,“ What have I to do with you, you man of God? You have come to me to bring my sin to memory, and to kill my son!”

You have proved my heart. You have visited me in the night. You have tried me, and found nothing. I have resolved that my mouth shall not disobey.

After a little while those who stood by came and said to Peter,“ Surely you are also one of them, for your speech makes you known.”Then he began to curse and to swear,“ I don’t know the man!” Immediately the rooster crowed.Peter remembered the word which Jesus had said to him,“ Before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.” Then he went out and wept bitterly.

By this we know love, because he laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.But whoever has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, then closes his heart of compassion against him, how does God’s love remain in him?My little children, let’s not love in word only, or with the tongue only, but in deed and truth.And by this we know that we are of the truth, and persuade our hearts before him,because if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.Beloved, if our hearts don’t condemn us, we have boldness toward God;so whatever we ask, we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do the things that are pleasing in his sight.This is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, even as he commanded.He who keeps his commandments remains in him, and he in him. By this we know that he remains in us, by the Spirit which he gave us.

I know also, my God, that you try the heart, and have pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of my heart I have willingly offered all these things. Now I have seen with joy your people, who are present here, offer willingly to you.

Peter therefore denied it again, and immediately the rooster crowed.

But Jesus didn’t entrust himself to them, because he knew everyone,and because he didn’t need for anyone to testify concerning man; for he himself knew what was in man.

“ The King will answer them,‘ Most certainly I tell you, because you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’

Wherein you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved in various trials,

If you love me, keep my commandments.

Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent. (niv)
