不是显现给所有的人看，而是显现给上帝预先所拣选为他作见证的人看，就是我们这些在他从死人中复活以后和他同吃同喝的人。

正在这时，门徒回来了。他们对耶稣正在和一个妇人说话感到惊讶，可是没有人说：“你要什么？”或说：“你为什么和她说话？”

雅各问他说：“请告诉我你的名字。”那人说：“何必问我的名字呢？”于是他在那里为雅各祝福。雅各就给那地方起名叫毗努伊勒，说：“我面对面见了上帝，我的性命仍得保全。”

门徒却不明白这话，又不敢问他。

耶稣看出他们要问他，就对他们说：“我说‘不久，你们将不再见到我；再过不久，你们还要见到我’，你们为这话彼此询问吗？

门徒却不明白这话，其中的意思对他们隐藏着，使他们不能明白，他们也不敢问这话的意思。

他们吃完了早饭，耶稣对西门‧彼得说：“约翰的儿子西门，你爱我比这些更深吗？”彼得对他说：“主啊，是的，你知道我爱你。”耶稣说：“你喂养我的小羊。”
