The Jews therefore answered him,“ What sign do you show us, seeing that you do these things?”

於是那些猶太人問耶穌說：「你做這些事，有什麼權柄的憑據給我們看呢？」

猶太人曰、爾既為此、則以何異蹟示我、

猶太人謂之曰、爾既為此、以何異跡示我、

而猶太人質詢之曰：『爾之為此、亦能示我以靈徵否？』

The Jews then responded to him,“ What sign can you show us to prove your authority to do all this?”

Then the Jewish leaders asked him,“ What sign can you show us to prove your authority to do this?”

So the Jews said to him,“ What sign do you show us for doing these things?”

But the Jewish leaders demanded,“ What are you doing? If God gave you authority to do this, show us a miraculous sign to prove it.”

So the Jews replied to him,“ What sign will you show us for doing these things?”

The Jews then said to Him,“ What sign do You show us as your authority for doing these things?”

So the Jews answered and said to Him,“ What sign do You show to us, since You do these things?”

The Jews therefore answered and said unto him, What sign showest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things?

So the Jews replied to Him,“ What sign of authority will You show us for doing these things?”

Then answered the Jews and said unto him, What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things?

So then the Jewish leaders responded,“ What sign can you show us, since you are doing these things?”

They said therefore to him,“ What then do you do for a sign, that we may see and believe you? What work do you do?

saying,“ Didn’t we strictly command you not to teach in this name? Behold, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and intend to bring this man’s blood on us.”

They came again to Jerusalem, and as he was walking in the temple, the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders came to him,and they began saying to him,“ By what authority do you do these things? Or who gave you this authority to do these things?”

Then certain of the scribes and Pharisees answered,“ Teacher, we want to see a sign from you.”But he answered them,“ An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, but no sign will be given to it but the sign of Jonah the prophet.For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the whale, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.The men of Nineveh will stand up in the judgment with this generation, and will condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and behold, someone greater than Jonah is here.The queen of the south will rise up in the judgment with this generation, and will condemn it, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, someone greater than Solomon is here.

When they had stood Peter and John in the middle of them, they inquired,“ By what power, or in what name, have you done this?”

The Pharisees came out and began to question him, seeking from him a sign from heaven, and testing him.

The Pharisees and Sadducees came, and testing him, asked him to show them a sign from heaven.But he answered them,“ When it is evening, you say,‘ It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.’In the morning,‘ It will be foul weather today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ Hypocrites! You know how to discern the appearance of the sky, but you can’t discern the signs of the times!An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and there will be no sign given to it, except the sign of the prophet Jonah.” He left them, and departed.

On one of those days, as he was teaching the people in the temple and preaching the Good News, the priests and scribes came to him with the elders.They asked him,“ Tell us: by what authority do you do these things? Or who is giving you this authority?”

When the multitudes were gathering together to him, he began to say,“ This is an evil generation. It seeks after a sign. No sign will be given to it but the sign of Jonah, the prophet.

They asked him,“ Why then do you baptize, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?”

When he had come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him as he was teaching, and said,“ By what authority do you do these things? Who gave you this authority?”
