Then, going over to the people who sold doves, he told them,“ Get these things out of here. Stop turning my Father’s house into a marketplace!”

顧謂售鴿者曰：『速收拾以去！勿以吾父之室、轉為貿利之場！』

“ But why did you need to search?” he asked.“ Didn’t you know that I must be in my Father’s house?”

Don’t you yourselves admit that this Temple, which bears my name, has become a den of thieves? Surely I see all the evil going on there. I, the Lord, have spoken!

I will give them— within the walls of my house— a memorial and a name far greater than sons and daughters could give. For the name I give them is an everlasting one. It will never disappear!“ I will also bless the foreigners who commit themselves to the Lord, who serve him and love his name, who worship him and do not desecrate the Sabbath day of rest, and who hold fast to my covenant.I will bring them to my holy mountain of Jerusalem and will fill them with joy in my house of prayer. I will accept their burnt offerings and sacrifices, because my Temple will be called a house of prayer for all nations.For the Sovereign Lord, who brings back the outcasts of Israel, says: I will bring others, too, besides my people Israel.”Come, wild animals of the field! Come, wild animals of the forest! Come and devour my people!For the leaders of my people— the Lord’s watchmen, his shepherds— are blind and ignorant. They are like silent watchdogs that give no warning when danger comes. They love to lie around, sleeping and dreaming.Like greedy dogs, they are never satisfied. They are ignorant shepherds, all following their own path and intent on personal gain.

He said to them,“ The Scriptures declare,‘ My Temple will be called a house of prayer for all nations,’ but you have turned it into a den of thieves.”

They commit adultery with their eyes, and their desire for sin is never satisfied. They lure unstable people into sin, and they are well trained in greed. They live under God’s curse.They have wandered off the right road and followed the footsteps of Balaam son of Beor, who loved to earn money by doing wrong.

But Jesus replied,“ My Father is always working, and so am I.”

In their greed they will make up clever lies to get hold of your money. But God condemned them long ago, and their destruction will not be delayed.

But no, the people are like crafty merchants selling from dishonest scales— they love to cheat.Israel boasts,“ I am rich! I’ve made a fortune all by myself! No one has caught me cheating! My record is spotless!”

“ Don’t cling to me,” Jesus said,“ for I haven’t yet ascended to the Father. But go find my brothers and tell them,‘ I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”

It began with Demetrius, a silversmith who had a large business manufacturing silver shrines of the Greek goddess Artemis. He kept many craftsmen busy.He called them together, along with others employed in similar trades, and addressed them as follows:“ Gentlemen, you know that our wealth comes from this business.But as you have seen and heard, this man Paul has persuaded many people that handmade gods aren’t really gods at all. And he’s done this not only here in Ephesus but throughout the entire province!Of course, I’m not just talking about the loss of public respect for our business. I’m also concerned that the temple of the great goddess Artemis will lose its influence and that Artemis— this magnificent goddess worshiped throughout the province of Asia and all around the world— will be robbed of her great prestige!”

for my Father has given them to me, and he is more powerful than anyone else. No one can snatch them from the Father’s hand.

These people always cause trouble. Their minds are corrupt, and they have turned their backs on the truth. To them, a show of godliness is just a way to become wealthy.
