耶穌正在向人群講話，這時候他的母親和弟弟們站在外面，想要和他說話。

耶穌的弟弟們對他說：「你離開這裡到猶太去吧，好讓你的門徒們也能看到你所做的事。因為人不會又想要出名，又在隱祕中做事。你既然要做這些事，就把自己顯明給世人看吧！」原來連他的弟弟們也不信他。

他們一進城，就到他們所住的樓上房間。在那裡有彼得、約翰、雅各、安得烈，腓力和多馬，巴多羅邁和馬太，亞勒腓的兒子雅各、激進派的西門、雅各的兒子猶大。這些人與一些婦女以及耶穌的母親瑪麗亞、耶穌的兄弟們一起，都同心合意地恆切禱告。

難道我們沒有權利像其他的使徒，像主的弟弟們，像磯法那樣，也帶著信主的妻子一同往來嗎？

至於其他的使徒，除了主的弟弟雅各，我都沒有見過。

這不就是那木匠的兒子嗎？他的母親不是叫瑪麗亞嗎？他的弟弟們不是雅各、約西、西門和猶大嗎？他的妹妹們不是都和我們在一起的嗎？那麼，他這一切是從哪裡來的呢？」

而你——迦百農啊，你將被高舉到天上嗎？不，你將下到陰間。因為在你中間行過的神蹟，如果行在所多瑪，它就會存留到今天。

他們上了船，開始渡過湖往迦百農去。原來天色已經黑了，而耶穌還沒有來到他們那裡。
