Later, Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for the body of Jesus. Now Joseph was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly because he feared the Jewish leaders. With Pilate’s permission, he came and took the body away.

Later Joseph asked Pilate for Jesus’ body. Joseph was from the town of Arimathea. He was a follower of Jesus. But he followed Jesus secretly because he was afraid of the Jewish leaders. After Pilate gave him permission, Joseph came and took the body away.

After these things Joseph of Arimathea, who was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus, and Pilate gave him permission. So he came and took away his body.

有一個人名叫約瑟，是個議員，是良善正義的人。這人並沒有附和眾人的計謀和行為。他是猶太的亞利馬太城的人，他素來期望着上帝的國。這人上去見彼拉多，求耶穌的身體。他把身體取下來，用細麻布裹好了，將他安放在一個石頭鑿成的塋墓裏，是從未有人安放過的。那一天是豫備日傍晚，安息日快到了。那些從加利利和耶穌一同來的婦女們跟隨着、看那墳墓，並看耶穌的身體怎樣地安放，然後回去，豫備香料香膏。安息日便遵照誡命靜歇着。

到了傍晚，來了一個有錢的亞利馬太人、名叫約瑟；他也是做門徒歸耶穌的。這個人上去見彼拉多，求耶穌的身體。彼拉多就發命令交給他。約瑟取了身體，用潔淨的細麻布裹好了，安放在他自己的新墳墓裏，就是他在磐石裏鑿成的；又把一塊大石頭輥到墳墓門口，才走。有抹大拉的馬利亞、和那另一個馬利亞在那裏，對着墓坐着。

並且在主裏面的弟兄、大多數也因我的受捆鎖、就都深信不疑，越發大膽無懼講論上帝之道。

已到傍晚，因為是豫備日，就是安息日的前夕，來了一個高貴的議員、亞利馬太人約瑟；他也是期望着上帝國的；他放膽進去見彼拉多，求耶穌的身體。彼拉多希奇、耶穌是不是已經死了，便把百夫長叫來，向他查問耶穌是不是已經死掉了些時候了。既從百夫長知道了，就將屍體賜給約瑟。約瑟買了細麻布，將耶穌取下來，用細麻布纏好了，把他安放在一個磐石中鑿出來的塋墓裏；又把一塊石頭輥來，擋住墳墓門。抹大拉的馬利亞和約瑟的母親馬利亞都看了他被安放的地方。

只因怕猶太人，就沒有人公開講論他的事。

雖然如此，就是議員中也有許多信耶穌的；只因法利賽人的緣故、未嘗承認罷了，怕從會堂裏被革除。

他父母說這些話，是因為怕猶太人；因為猶太人已經約定了、若有人承認耶穌為基督，就該從會堂裏被革除。

懼怕人的、乃自設網羅；但倚靠永恆主的、必得到安穩。
