為這些事作見證，並且記載這些事的就是這門徒；我們也知道他的見證是真的。

論到從起初原有的生命之道，就是我們所聽見、所看見、親眼看過、親手摸過的。（這生命已經顯現出來，我們也看見過，現在又作見證，將原與父同在、且顯現與我們那永遠的生命傳給你們。）我們將所看見、所聽見的傳給你們，使你們與我們相交。我們乃是與父並他兒子耶穌基督相交的。

你們也要作見證，因為你們從起頭就與我同在。」

我這作長老、作基督受苦的見證、同享後來所要顯現之榮耀的，勸你們中間與我同作長老的人：

從前所寫的聖經都是為教訓我們寫的，叫我們因聖經所生的忍耐和安慰可以得着盼望。

我們若忽略這麼大的救恩，怎能逃罪呢？這救恩起先是主親自講的，後來是聽見的人給我們證實了。神又按自己的旨意，用神蹟、奇事和百般的異能，並聖靈的恩賜，同他們作見證。

他在猶太人之地，並耶路撒冷所行的一切事，有我們作見證。他們竟把他掛在木頭上殺了。

但記這些事要叫你們信耶穌是基督，是神的兒子，並且叫你們信了他，就可以因他的名得生命。

我也知道你常聽我，但我說這話是為周圍站着的眾人，叫他們信是你差了我來。」

耶穌見母親和他所愛的那門徒站在旁邊，就對他母親說：「母親，看，你的兒子！」

「我不但為這些人祈求，也為那些因他們的話信我的人祈求，使他們都合而為一。正如你父在我裏面，我在你裏面，使他們也在我們裏面，叫世人可以信你差了我來。

我沒有在那裏就歡喜，這是為你們的緣故，好叫你們相信。如今我們可以往他那裏去吧。」
