论到太初就已经存在的生命之道，就是我们所听见，亲眼所看见，仔细观察过，亲手摸过的；这生命已经显现出来，我们见过了，现在也作见证，并且向你们宣扬这本来与父同在，又向我们显现过的永远的生命。我们把所看见所听见的向你们宣扬，使你们也可以和我们彼此相通。我们是与父和他的儿子耶稣基督彼此相通的。

你们也要作见证，因为从开始你们就是跟我在一起的。”

我这同作长老，也是为基督受苦作见证，又是同享将来所要显现的荣耀的，劝你们当中作长老的：

从前经上所写的，都是为教训我们而写的，好使我们藉着忍耐和圣经中的安慰得着盼望。

如果我们忽略了这么大的救恩，怎么能逃罪呢？这救恩起初是由主亲自宣讲的，后来听见的人给我们证实了。神又照着自己的旨意，用神迹、奇事和各样异能，以及圣灵的恩赐，与他们一同作见证。

我们就是他在犹太人之地和耶路撒冷所行一切事的见证人；他们竟然把他挂在木头上，杀了他。

但把这些事记下来，是要你们信耶稣是基督，是神的儿子，并且使你们信了，可以因他的名得生命。

我知道你常常听我，但我说这话，是为了周围站着的群众，叫他们信是你差了我来。”

耶稣看见母亲，又看见他所爱的那门徒站在旁边，就对母亲说：“母亲（“母亲”原文作“妇人”），看！你的儿子。”

“我不但为他们求，也为那些因他们的话而信我的人求，使他们都合而为一，像父你在我里面，我在你里面一样；使他们也在我们里面，让世人相信你差了我来。

我为你们欢喜，因为我不在那里，是要使你们相信。现在我们到他那里去吧。”

现在事情还没有发生，我就已经告诉你们，使你们在事情发生的时候可以相信。
