As they led Jesus away, a man named Simon, who was from Cyrene, happened to be coming in from the countryside. The soldiers seized him and put the cross on him and made him carry it behind Jesus.

A passerby named Simon, who was from Cyrene, was coming in from the countryside just then, and the soldiers forced him to carry Jesus’ cross.( Simon was the father of Alexander and Rufus.)And they brought Jesus to a place called Golgotha( which means“ Place of the Skull”).They offered him wine drugged with myrrh, but he refused it.

A sign was fastened above him with these words:“ This is the King of the Jews.”

Looking at the man, Jesus felt genuine love for him.“ There is still one thing you haven’t done,” he told him.“ Go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

A sign announced the charge against him. It read,“ The King of the Jews.”

Then he said to the crowd,“ If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow me.

“ Take the blasphemer outside the camp, and tell all those who heard the curse to lay their hands on his head. Then let the entire community stone him to death.

When they were finally tired of mocking him, they took off the robe and put his own clothes on him again. Then they led him away to be crucified.Along the way, they came across a man named Simon, who was from Cyrene, and the soldiers forced him to carry Jesus’ cross.And they went out to a place called Golgotha( which means“ Place of the Skull”).The soldiers gave Jesus wine mixed with bitter gall, but when he had tasted it, he refused to drink it.

Then the two scoundrels came and sat down across from him. And they accused Naboth before all the people, saying,“ He cursed God and the king.” So he was dragged outside the town and stoned to death.

Let this Messiah, this King of Israel, come down from the cross so we can see it and believe him!” Even the men who were crucified with Jesus ridiculed him.
