When they had driven him out of the city, they began to stone him, and the witnesses laid their cloaks at the feet of a young man named Saul.

There was also an inscription over him,“ This is the king of the Jews.”

As Jesus looked at him, he felt love for him and said,“ You lack one thing. Go, sell whatever you have and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

The inscription of the charge against him read,“ The king of the Jews.”

Then he said to them all,“ If anyone wants to become my follower, he must deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow me.

“ Bring the one who cursed outside the camp, and all who heard him are to lay their hands on his head, and the whole congregation is to stone him to death.

When they had mocked him, they stripped him of the robe and put his own clothes back on him. Then they led him away to crucify him.As they were going out, they found a man from Cyrene named Simon, whom they forced to carry his cross.They came to a place called Golgotha( which means“ Place of the Skull”)and offered Jesus wine mixed with gall to drink. But after tasting it, he would not drink it.

The two villains arrived and sat opposite him. Then the villains testified against Naboth right before the people, saying,“ Naboth cursed God and the king.” So they dragged him outside the city and stoned him to death.

Let the Christ, the king of Israel, come down from the cross now, that we may see and believe!” Those who were crucified with him also spoke abusively to him.
