於是彼拉多釋放巴拉巴給他們，把耶穌鞭打後交給人釘十字架。總督的兵把耶穌帶進總督府，把全營的兵都聚集在耶穌那裏。他們脫了他的衣服，穿上一件朱紅色的袍子，用荊棘編了冠冕，戴在他頭上，拿一根蘆葦稈放在他右手裏，跪在他面前，戲弄他，說：「萬歲，猶太人的王！」他們又向他吐唾沫，拿蘆葦稈打他的頭。他們戲弄完了，就給他脫了袍子，又穿上他自己的衣服，帶他出去，要釘十字架。

彼拉多要討好眾人，就釋放巴拉巴給他們，把耶穌鞭打後交給人釘十字架。士兵把耶穌帶進總督府的庭院裏，叫齊了全營的兵。他們給他穿上紫袍，又用荊棘編了冠冕給他戴上，然後向他致敬，說：「萬歲，猶太人的王！」他們又拿一根蘆葦稈打他的頭，向他吐唾沫，屈膝拜他。他們戲弄完了，就給他脫了紫袍，又穿上他自己的衣服，帶他出去，要把他釘十字架。
