From then on Pilate sought to release Him, but the Jews cried out, saying,“ If you let this Man go, you are not Caesar’s friend. Whoever makes himself a king speaks against Caesar.”

Upon this Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou release this man, thou art not Cæsar’s friend: every one that maketh himself a king speaketh against Cæsar.

And from thenceforth Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou let this man go, thou art not Caesar’s friend: whosoever maketh himself a king speaketh against Caesar.

『查得此人、煽惑我民、禁人納稅於凱撒、自稱受命之王。』比辣多乃問耶穌曰：『爾為猶太人之王乎？』耶穌對曰：『爾言之矣。』比辣多謂司祭諸長及群眾曰：『吾未見其罪也。』眾力言曰：『煽動民眾、傳教猶太全境、發自加利利、周遊至此。』

不得；乃曳雅孫及同道數人謁有司曰：『擾亂天下者來至此地、而雅孫納之，是皆違背凱撒之命、而奉耶穌為王者也。』

希祿聞之、則曰：『是必吾所斬之如望復活矣。』先是希祿以娶弟斐立妻黑落娣故、囚如望於獄。蓋如望嘗諫曰：『納弟婦、非禮也。』黑落娣因是懷恨、欲害之而弗得、以希祿明知其義且聖、畏而庇之、所言多從、亦樂聞其教。會希祿誕辰、宴群臣諸將、及加利利紳宦。黑落娣女起舞為壽、合席歡然。王謂女曰：『任汝所求、必予汝。』且誓曰：『雖平分國土、吾亦弗吝。』女退詢母將何求、母曰：『施洗者如望之首。』乃返、請於王曰：『願以施洗者如望之首、置盤中見賜。』王戚戚然有難色、惟百僚咸列、不欲自食其誓、
