Then Jesus said,“ You would have no power over me at all unless it were given to you from above. So the one who handed me over to you has the greater sin.”

耶穌對曰：『設非自天所授、爾亦焉能有權於我哉！是故交予於爾者、厥罪尤大。』

Jesus answered,“ You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above. Therefore the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin.”

“ You would have no authority over me at all,” Jesus answered him,“ if it hadn’t been given you from above. This is why the one who handed me over to you has the greater sin.”

Jesus answered him,“ You would have no authority over Me at all, if it had not been given to you from above; for this reason the one who handed Me over to you has the greater sin.”

Jesus answered,“ You could have no power at all against Me unless it had been given you from above. Therefore the one who delivered Me to you has the greater sin.”

Jesus answered him, Thou wouldest have no power against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath greater sin.

“ You would have no authority over Me at all,” Jesus answered him,“ if it hadn’t been given you from above. This is why the one who handed Me over to you has the greater sin.”

Jesus replied,“ You would have no authority over me at all, unless it was given to you from above. Therefore the one who handed me over to you is guilty of greater sin.”

Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God.

John replied,“ No one can receive anything unless God gives it from heaven.

Then the leaders tried to arrest him; but no one laid a hand on him, because his time had not yet come.

But God knew what would happen, and his prearranged plan was carried out when Jesus was betrayed. With the help of lawless Gentiles, you nailed him to a cross and killed him.

God has spoken plainly, and I have heard it many times: Power, O God, belongs to you;

God has sent me ahead of you to keep you and your families alive and to preserve many survivors.So it was God who sent me here, not you! And he is the one who made me an adviser to Pharaoh— the manager of his entire palace and the governor of all Egypt.

For everything comes from him and exists by his power and is intended for his glory. All glory to him forever! Amen.

For this has been decreed by the messengers; it is commanded by the holy ones, so that everyone may know that the Most High rules over the kingdoms of the world. He gives them to anyone he chooses— even to the lowliest of people.”

With my great strength and powerful arm I made the earth and all its people and every animal. I can give these things of mine to anyone I choose.Now I will give your countries to King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, who is my servant. I have put everything, even the wild animals, under his control.All the nations will serve him, his son, and his grandson until his time is up. Then many nations and great kings will conquer and rule over Babylon.So you must submit to Babylon’s king and serve him; put your neck under Babylon’s yoke! I will punish any nation that refuses to be his slave, says the Lord. I will send war, famine, and disease upon that nation until Babylon has conquered it.

But everything they did was determined beforehand according to your will.

For it is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob— the God of all our ancestors— who has brought glory to his servant Jesus by doing this. This is the same Jesus whom you handed over and rejected before Pilate, despite Pilate’s decision to release him.

You will be driven from human society. You will live in the fields with the wild animals, and you will eat grass like a cow. Seven periods of time will pass while you live this way, until you learn that the Most High rules over the kingdoms of the world and gives them to anyone he chooses.’

And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.

All the people of the earth are nothing compared to him. He does as he pleases among the angels of heaven and among the people of the earth. No one can stop him or say to him,‘ What do you mean by doing these things?’

Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.

“ And a servant who knows what the master wants, but isn’t prepared and doesn’t carry out those instructions, will be severely punished.But someone who does not know, and then does something wrong, will be punished only lightly. When someone has been given much, much will be required in return; and when someone has been entrusted with much, even more will be required.

He was driven from human society. He was given the mind of a wild animal, and he lived among the wild donkeys. The leading priests and Pharisees had given Judas a contingent of Roman soldiers and Temple guards to accompany him. Now with blazing torches, lanterns, and weapons, they arrived at the olive grove.

I am silent before you; I won’t say a word, for my punishment is from you.

Then they bound him, led him away, and took him to Pilate, the Roman governor.

Caiaphas, who was high priest at that time, said,“ You don’t know what you’re talking about!You don’t realize that it’s better for you that one man should die for the people than for the whole nation to be destroyed.”

Who can command things to happen without the Lord’s permission?

Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it.

‘ We wipe even the dust of your town from our feet to show that we have abandoned you to your fate. And know this— the Kingdom of God is near!’I assure you, even wicked Sodom will be better off than such a town on judgment day.“ What sorrow awaits you, Korazin and Bethsaida! For if the miracles I did in you had been done in wicked Tyre and Sidon, their people would have repented of their sins long ago, clothing themselves in burlap and throwing ashes on their heads to show their remorse.Yes, Tyre and Sidon will be better off on judgment day than you.

For it is impossible to bring back to repentance those who were once enlightened— those who have experienced the good things of heaven and shared in the Holy Spirit,who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the power of the age to come—and who then turn away from God. It is impossible to bring such people back to repentance; by rejecting the Son of God, they themselves are nailing him to the cross once again and holding him up to public shame.When the ground soaks up the falling rain and bears a good crop for the farmer, it has God’s blessing.But if a field bears thorns and thistles, it is useless. The farmer will soon condemn that field and burn it.

Jesus’ trial before Caiaphas ended in the early hours of the morning. Then he was taken to the headquarters of the Roman governor. His accusers didn’t go inside because it would defile them, and they wouldn’t be allowed to celebrate the Passover.So Pilate, the governor, went out to them and asked,“ What is your charge against this man?”“ We wouldn’t have handed him over to you if he weren’t a criminal!” they retorted.“ Then take him away and judge him by your own law,” Pilate told them.“ Only the Romans are permitted to execute someone,” the Jewish leaders replied.( This fulfilled Jesus’ prediction about the way he would die.)

“ If you were blind, you wouldn’t be guilty,” Jesus replied.“ But you remain guilty because you claim you can see.

They would not be guilty if I had not come and spoken to them. But now they have no excuse for their sin.Anyone who hates me also hates my Father.If I hadn’t done such miraculous signs among them that no one else could do, they would not be guilty. But as it is, they have seen everything I did, yet they still hate me and my Father.

Then Jesus told him this story:“ A man loaned money to two people— 500 pieces of silver to one and 50 pieces to the other.But neither of them could repay him, so he kindly forgave them both, canceling their debts. Who do you suppose loved him more after that?”

Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O Lord, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as the one who is over all things.

Why didn’t you arrest me in the Temple? I was there every day. But this is your moment, the time when the power of darkness reigns.”

If you don’t, I will send more plagues on you and your officials and your people. Then you will know that there is no one like me in all the earth.By now I could have lifted my hand and struck you and your people with a plague to wipe you off the face of the earth.But I have spared you for a purpose— to show you my power and to spread my fame throughout the earth.

The traitor, Judas, had given them a prearranged signal:“ You will know which one to arrest when I greet him with a kiss. Then you can take him away under guard.”

Then the high priest tore his clothing to show his horror and said,“ Blasphemy! Why do we need other witnesses? You have all heard his blasphemy.
