My back is covered with cuts, as if a farmer had plowed long furrows.

“ Listen,” he said,“ we’re going up to Jerusalem, where the Son of Man will be betrayed to the leading priests and the teachers of religious law. They will sentence him to die and hand him over to the Romans.They will mock him, spit on him, flog him with a whip, and kill him, but after three days he will rise again.”

He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you are healed.

So Pilate released Barabbas to them. He ordered Jesus flogged with a lead tipped whip, then turned him over to the Roman soldiers to be crucified.Some of the governor’s soldiers took Jesus into their headquarters and called out the entire regiment.They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him.They wove thorn branches into a crown and put it on his head, and they placed a reed stick in his right hand as a scepter. Then they knelt before him in mockery and taunted,“ Hail! King of the Jews!”And they spit on him and grabbed the stick and struck him on the head with it.When they were finally tired of mocking him, they took off the robe and put his own clothes on him again. Then they led him away to be crucified.

They will flog him with a whip and kill him, but on the third day he will rise again.”

But the mob shouted louder and louder, demanding that Jesus be crucified, and their voices prevailed.

A mob quickly formed against Paul and Silas, and the city officials ordered them stripped and beaten with wooden rods.They were severely beaten, and then they were thrown into prison. The jailer was ordered to make sure they didn’t escape.

The commander brought Paul inside and ordered him lashed with whips to make him confess his crime. He wanted to find out why the crowd had become so furious.When they tied Paul down to lash him, Paul said to the officer standing there,“ Is it legal for you to whip a Roman citizen who hasn’t even been tried?”

So to pacify the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them. He ordered Jesus flogged with a lead tipped whip, then turned him over to the Roman soldiers to be crucified.The soldiers took Jesus into the courtyard of the governor’s headquarters( called the Praetorium) and called out the entire regiment.They dressed him in a purple robe, and they wove thorn branches into a crown and put it on his head.Then they saluted him and taunted,“ Hail! King of the Jews!”And they struck him on the head with a reed stick, spit on him, and dropped to their knees in mock worship.When they were finally tired of mocking him, they took off the purple robe and put his own clothes on him again. Then they led him away to be crucified.

Five different times the Jewish leaders gave me thirty nine lashes.

“ Therefore, I am sending you prophets and wise men and teachers of religious law. But you will kill some by crucifixion, and you will flog others with whips in your synagogues, chasing them from city to city.

Some were jeered at, and their backs were cut open with whips. Others were chained in prisons.
