But they were insistent, demanding with loud shouts that he be crucified. And their shouts prevailed.

The crowd joined the attack against them, and the magistrates tore the clothes off Paul and Silas and ordered them to be beaten with rods.After they had beaten them severely, they threw them into prison and commanded the jailer to guard them securely.

the commanding officer ordered Paul to be brought back into the barracks. He told them to interrogate Paul by beating him with a lash so that he could find out the reason the crowd was shouting at Paul in this way.When they had stretched him out for the lash, Paul said to the centurion standing nearby,“ Is it legal for you to lash a man who is a Roman citizen without a proper trial?”

Because he wanted to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas for them. Then, after he had Jesus flogged, he handed him over to be crucified.So the soldiers led him into the palace( that is, the governor’s residence) and called together the whole cohort.They put a purple cloak on him and after braiding a crown of thorns, they put it on him.They began to salute him:“ Hail, king of the Jews!”Again and again they struck him on the head with a staff and spit on him. Then they knelt down and paid homage to him.When they had finished mocking him, they stripped him of the purple cloak and put his own clothes back on him. Then they led him away to crucify him.

Five times I received from the Jews forty lashes less one.

“ For this reason I am sending you prophets and wise men and experts in the law, some of whom you will kill and crucify, and some you will flog in your synagogues and pursue from town to town,

And others experienced mocking and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment.
