比辣多應曰：『何謂真理？』言竟復出、而告猶太人曰：『吾未見其罪也。

“ What is truth?” retorted Pilate. With this he went out again to the Jews gathered there and said,“ I find no basis for a charge against him.

Pilate said to him,“ What is truth?” After he had said this, he went back outside to the Jews and told them,“ I find no guilt in him.

Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find no crime in him.

“ What is truth?” said Pilate. After he had said this, he went out to the Jews again and told them,“ I find no grounds for charging Him.

Pilate asked,“ What is truth?” When he had said this he went back outside to the Jewish leaders and announced,“ I find no basis for an accusation against him.

Pilate went outside again and said to the people,“ I am going to bring him out to you now, but understand clearly that I find him not guilty.”

When they saw him, the leading priests and Temple guards began shouting,“ Crucify him! Crucify him!”“ Take him yourselves and crucify him,” Pilate said.“ I find him not guilty.”

Pilate turned to the leading priests and to the crowd and said,“ I find nothing wrong with this man!”

He never sinned, nor ever deceived anyone.He did not retaliate when he was insulted, nor threaten revenge when he suffered. He left his case in the hands of God, who always judges fairly.

Pilate saw that he wasn’t getting anywhere and that a riot was developing. So he sent for a bowl of water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying,“ I am innocent of this man’s blood. The responsibility is yours!”

It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God.

( He knew very well that the religious leaders had arrested Jesus out of envy.)Just then, as Pilate was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent him this message:“ Leave that innocent man alone. I suffered through a terrible nightmare about him last night.”

As he reasoned with them about righteousness and self control and the coming day of judgment, Felix became frightened.“ Go away for now,” he replied.“ When it is more convenient, I’ll call for you again.”He also hoped that Paul would bribe him, so he sent for him quite often and talked with him.

When they heard Paul speak about the resurrection of the dead, some laughed in contempt, but others said,“ We want to hear more about this later.”

“ Why?” Pilate demanded.“ What crime has he committed?” But the mob roared even louder,“ Crucify him!”

Then they took him to the high council of the city.“ Come and tell us about this new teaching,” they said.“ You are saying some rather strange things, and we want to know what it’s all about.”

Then the leading priests objected and said to Pilate,“ Change it from‘ The King of the Jews’ to‘ He said, I am King of the Jews.’”Pilate replied,“ No, what I have written, I have written.”

and he announced his verdict.“ You brought this man to me, accusing him of leading a revolt. I have examined him thoroughly on this point in your presence and find him innocent.Herod came to the same conclusion and sent him back to us. Nothing this man has done calls for the death penalty.So I will have him flogged, and then I will release him.”
