Pilate answered,“ Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have delivered You to me. What have You done?”

Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thine own nation and the chief priests delivered thee unto me: what hast thou done?

“ I’m not a Jew, am I?” Pilate replied.“ Your own nation and the chief priests handed You over to me. What have You done?”

Pilate answered,“ I am not a Jew, am I? Your own people and your chief priests handed you over to me. What have you done?”

Pilate answered,“ I’m not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests delivered you to me. What have you done?”

For it is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob— the God of all our ancestors— who has brought glory to his servant Jesus by doing this. This is the same Jesus whom you handed over and rejected before Pilate, despite Pilate’s decision to release him.

Jesus’ trial before Caiaphas ended in the early hours of the morning. Then he was taken to the headquarters of the Roman governor. His accusers didn’t go inside because it would defile them, and they wouldn’t be allowed to celebrate the Passover.

“ Aren’t you the Egyptian who led a rebellion some time ago and took 4,000 members of the Assassins out into the desert?”

saying in front of his friends and the Samarian army officers,“ What does this bunch of poor, feeble Jews think they’re doing? Do they think they can build the wall in a single day by just offering a few sacrifices? Do they actually think they can make something of stones from a rubbish heap— and charred ones at that?”

Instead, it was something about their religion and a dead man named Jesus, who Paul insists is alive.I was at a loss to know how to investigate these things, so I asked him whether he would be willing to stand trial on these charges in Jerusalem.

Then Jesus said,“ You would have no power over me at all unless it were given to you from above. So the one who handed me over to you has the greater sin.”

But just as Paul started to make his defense, Gallio turned to Paul’s accusers and said,“ Listen, you Jews, if this were a case involving some wrongdoing or a serious crime, I would have a reason to accept your case.But since it is merely a question of words and names and your Jewish law, take care of it yourselves. I refuse to judge such matters.”And he threw them out of the courtroom.

Then what’s the advantage of being a Jew? Is there any value in the ceremony of circumcision?Yes, there are great benefits! First of all, the Jews were entrusted with the whole revelation of God.

The crowd listened until Paul said that word. Then they all began to shout,“ Away with such a fellow! He isn’t fit to live!”They yelled, threw off their coats, and tossed handfuls of dust into the air.The commander brought Paul inside and ordered him lashed with whips to make him confess his crime. He wanted to find out why the crowd had become so furious.

I soon discovered the charge was something regarding their religious law— certainly nothing worthy of imprisonment or death.

“ The king should know that the Jews who came here to Jerusalem from Babylon are rebuilding this rebellious and evil city. They have already laid the foundation and will soon finish its walls.

When they saw him, the leading priests and Temple guards began shouting,“ Crucify him! Crucify him!”“ Take him yourselves and crucify him,” Pilate said.“ I find him not guilty.”
