The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our ancestors, has glorified his servant Jesus, whom you handed over and denied before Pilate, though he had decided to release him.

Then they led Jesus from Caiaphas to the governor’s headquarters. It was early morning. They did not enter the headquarters themselves; otherwise they would be defiled and unable to eat the Passover.

Aren’t you the Egyptian who started a revolt some time ago and led four thousand men of the Assassins into the wilderness?”

Instead they had some disagreements with him about their own religion and about a certain Jesus, a dead man Paul claimed to be alive.Since I was at a loss in a dispute over such things, I asked him if he wanted to go to Jerusalem and be tried there regarding these matters.

“ You would have no authority over me at all,” Jesus answered him,“ if it hadn’t been given you from above. This is why the one who handed me over to you has the greater sin.”

As Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews,“ If it were a matter of wrongdoing or of a serious crime, it would be reasonable for me to put up with you Jews.But if these are questions about words, names, and your own law, see to it yourselves. I refuse to be a judge of such things.”So he drove them from the tribunal.

So what advantage does the Jew have? Or what is the benefit of circumcision?Considerable in every way. First, they were entrusted with the very words of God.

They listened to him up to this point. Then they raised their voices, shouting,“ Wipe this man off the face of the earth! He should not be allowed to live!”As they were yelling and flinging aside their garments and throwing dust into the air,the commander ordered him to be brought into the barracks, directing that he be interrogated with the scourge to discover the reason they were shouting against him like this.

I found out that the accusations were concerning questions of their law, and that there was no charge that merited death or imprisonment.

Let it be known to the king that the Jews who came from you have returned to us at Jerusalem. They are rebuilding that rebellious and evil city, finishing its walls, and repairing its foundations.
