So Jesus said,“ When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he and that I do nothing on my own but speak just what the Father has taught me.

Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written:“ Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole.”

“ We are going up to Jerusalem,” he said,“ and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles,

‘ The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’”Then they remembered his words.

Again his Jewish opponents picked up stones to stone him,

“ We are not stoning you for any good work,” they replied,“ but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God.”

While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed,“ Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.”
