They answered him,“ If this man weren’t an evildoer, we wouldn’t have delivered him up to you.”

眾應曰：『苟非惡類、必不解之爾前。』

“ If he were not a criminal,” they replied,“ we would not have handed him over to you.”

“ He has committed crimes,” they replied.“ If he hadn’t, we would not have handed him over to you.”

They answered him,“ If this man were not doing evil, we would not have delivered him over to you.”

“ We wouldn’t have handed him over to you if he weren’t a criminal!” they retorted.

They answered him,“ If this man weren’t a criminal, we wouldn’t have handed him over to you.”

They answered and said to him,“ If this Man were not a criminal, we would not have handed Him over to you.”

They answered and said to him,“ If He were not an evildoer, we would not have delivered Him up to you.”

They answered and said unto him, If this man were not an evil- doer, we should not have delivered him up unto thee.

They answered him,“ If this man weren’t a criminal, we wouldn’t have handed Him over to you.”

They answered and said unto him, If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up unto thee.

They replied,“ If this man were not a criminal, we would not have handed him over to you.”

“ Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem. The Son of Man will be delivered to the chief priests and the scribes. They will condemn him to death, and will deliver him to the Gentiles.

saying that the Son of Man must be delivered up into the hands of sinful men and be crucified, and the third day rise again?”

At this, Pilate was seeking to release him, but the Jews cried out, saying,“ If you release this man, you aren’t Caesar’s friend! Everyone who makes himself a king speaks against Caesar!”

The chief priests and the scribes sought to lay hands on him that very hour, but they feared the people— for they knew he had spoken this parable against them.They watched him and sent out spies, who pretended to be righteous, that they might trap him in something he said, so as to deliver him up to the power and authority of the governor.They asked him,“ Teacher, we know that you say and teach what is right, and aren’t partial to anyone, but truly teach the way of God.Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”But he perceived their craftiness, and said to them,“ Why do you test me?Show me a denarius. Whose image and inscription are on it?” They answered,“ Caesar’s.”He said to them,“ Then give to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”They weren’t able to trap him in his words before the people. They marveled at his answer and were silent.

The chief priests accused him of many things.

The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his Servant Jesus, whom you delivered up, and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he had determined to release him.

They began to accuse him, saying,“ We found this man perverting the nation, forbidding paying taxes to Caesar, and saying that he himself is Christ, a king.”Pilate asked him,“ Are you the King of the Jews?” He answered him,“ So you say.”Pilate said to the chief priests and the multitudes,“ I find no basis for a charge against this man.”But they insisted, saying,“ He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee even to this place.”
