Then the Jewish leaders took Jesus from Caiaphas to the palace of the Roman governor. By now it was early morning, and to avoid ceremonial uncleanness they did not enter the palace, because they wanted to be able to eat the Passover.

Then they brought Jesus from Caiaphas to the Roman governor’s residence.( Now it was very early morning.) They did not go into the governor’s residence so they would not be ceremonially defiled, but could eat the Passover meal.

Pilate therefore entered again into the Praetorium, called Jesus, and said to him,“ Are you the King of the Jews?”

He entered into the Praetorium again, and said to Jesus,“ Where are you from?” But Jesus gave him no answer.

Then the governor’s soldiers took Jesus into the Praetorium, and gathered the whole garrison together against him.

saying,“ You went in to uncircumcised men, and ate with them!”

He said to them,“ You yourselves know how it is an unlawful thing for a man who is a Jew to join himself or come to one of another nation, but God has shown me that I shouldn’t call any man unholy or unclean.

Immediately in the morning the chief priests, with the elders and scribes, and the whole council, held a consultation, bound Jesus, carried him away, and delivered him up to Pilate.Pilate asked him,“ Are you the King of the Jews?” He answered,“ So you say.”The chief priests accused him of many things.Pilate again asked him,“ Have you no answer? See how many things they testify against you!”But Jesus made no further answer, so that Pilate marveled.

Woe to those who devise iniquity and work evil on their beds! When the morning is light, they practice it, because it is in the power of their hand.

I hate, I despise your feasts, and I can’t stand your solemn assemblies.Yes, though you offer me your burnt offerings and meal offerings, I will not accept them; neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat animals.Take away from me the noise of your songs! I will not listen to the music of your harps.

Hear Yahweh’s word, you rulers of Sodom! Listen to the law of our God, you people of Gomorrah!“ What are the multitude of your sacrifices to me?”, says Yahweh.“ I have had enough of the burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fed animals. I don’t delight in the blood of bulls, or of lambs, or of male goats.When you come to appear before me, who has required this at your hand, to trample my courts?Bring no more vain offerings. Incense is an abomination to me. New moons, Sabbaths, and convocations: I can’t stand evil assemblies.My soul hates your New Moons and your appointed feasts. They are a burden to me. I am weary of bearing them.When you spread out your hands, I will hide my eyes from you. Yes, when you make many prayers, I will not hear. Your hands are full of blood.

Now it was the Preparation Day of the Passover, at about the sixth hour. He said to the Jews,“ Behold, your King!”

Behold, you trust in lying words that can’t profit.Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, burn incense to Baal, and walk after other gods that you have not known,then come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say,‘ We are delivered;’ that you may do all these abominations?Has this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, I myself have seen it,” says Yahweh.

You shall sacrifice the Passover to Yahweh your God, of the flock and the herd, in the place which Yahweh shall choose to cause his name to dwell there.

Now the Passover of the Jews was at hand. Many went up from the country to Jerusalem before the Passover, to purify themselves.

Now when morning had come, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death:and they bound him, and led him away, and delivered him up to Pontius Pilate, the governor.Then Judas, who betrayed him, when he saw that Jesus was condemned, felt remorse, and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,saying,“ I have sinned in that I betrayed innocent blood.” But they said,“ What is that to us? You see to it.”He threw down the pieces of silver in the sanctuary, and departed. He went away and hanged himself.The chief priests took the pieces of silver, and said,“ It’s not lawful to put them into the treasury, since it is the price of blood.”They took counsel, and bought the potter’s field with them, to bury strangers in.Therefore that field was called“ The Field of Blood” to this day.Then that which was spoken through Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled, saying,“ They took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him upon whom a price had been set, whom some of the children of Israel priced,and they gave them for the potter’s field, as the Lord commanded me.”

For they don’t sleep unless they do evil. Their sleep is taken away, unless they make someone fall.

As soon as it was day, the assembly of the elders of the people were gathered together, both chief priests and scribes, and they led him away into their council, saying,

“‘“ In the first month, in the fourteenth day of the month, you shall have the Passover, a feast of seven days; unleavened bread shall be eaten.

“ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint, dill, and cumin, and have left undone the weightier matters of the law: justice, mercy, and faith. But you ought to have done these, and not to have left the other undone.You blind guides, who strain out a gnat, and swallow a camel!“ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and unrighteousness.You blind Pharisee, first clean the inside of the cup and of the platter, that its outside may become clean also.“ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitened tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but inwardly are full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness.Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

But you have a custom, that I should release someone to you at the Passover. Therefore, do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?”

The soldiers led him away within the court, which is the Praetorium; and they called together the whole cohort.

Like the profane mockers in feasts, they gnashed their teeth at me.

They build up Zion with blood, and Jerusalem with iniquity.Her leaders judge for bribes, and her priests teach for a price, and her prophets of it tell fortunes for money: yet they lean on Yahweh, and say,“ Isn’t Yahweh among us? No disaster will come on us.”Therefore Zion for your sake will be plowed like a field, and Jerusalem will become heaps of rubble, and the mountain of the temple like the high places of a forest.

His princes gave for a free will offering to the people, to the priests, and to the Levites. Hilkiah, Zechariah, and Jehiel, the rulers of God’s house, gave to the priests for the Passover offerings two thousand six hundred small livestock, and three hundred head of cattle.Conaniah also, and Shemaiah and Nethanel, his brothers, and Hashabiah, Jeiel, and Jozabad, the chiefs of the Levites, gave to the Levites for the Passover offerings five thousand small livestock and five hundred head of cattle.So the service was prepared, and the priests stood in their place, and the Levites by their divisions, according to the king’s commandment.They killed the Passover, and the priests sprinkled the blood which they received of their hand, and the Levites skinned them.They removed the burnt offerings, that they might give them according to the divisions of the fathers’ houses of the children of the people, to offer to Yahweh, as it is written in the book of Moses. They did the same with the cattle.They roasted the Passover with fire according to the ordinance. They boiled the holy offerings in pots, in cauldrons, and in pans, and carried them quickly to all the children of the people.Afterward they prepared for themselves and for the priests, because the priests the sons of Aaron were busy with offering the burnt offerings and the fat until night. Therefore the Levites prepared for themselves and for the priests the sons of Aaron.

The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his Servant Jesus, whom you delivered up, and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he had determined to release him.

The whole company of them rose up and brought him before Pilate.They began to accuse him, saying,“ We found this man perverting the nation, forbidding paying taxes to Caesar, and saying that he himself is Christ, a king.”Pilate asked him,“ Are you the King of the Jews?” He answered him,“ So you say.”Pilate said to the chief priests and the multitudes,“ I find no basis for a charge against this man.”But they insisted, saying,“ He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee even to this place.”

The children of Israel who were present kept the Passover at that time, and the feast of unleavened bread seven days.There was no Passover like that kept in Israel from the days of Samuel the prophet, nor did any of the kings of Israel keep such a Passover as Josiah kept, with the priests, the Levites, and all Judah and Israel who were present, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

The children of Israel who were present at Jerusalem kept the feast of unleavened bread seven days with great gladness. The Levites and the priests praised Yahweh day by day, singing with loud instruments to Yahweh.Hezekiah spoke encouragingly to all the Levites who had good understanding in the service of Yahweh. So they ate throughout the feast for the seven days, offering sacrifices of peace offerings, and making confession to Yahweh, the God of their fathers.The whole assembly took counsel to keep another seven days, and they kept another seven days with gladness.For Hezekiah king of Judah gave to the assembly for offerings one thousand bulls and seven thousand sheep; and the princes gave to the assembly a thousand bulls and ten thousand sheep: and a great number of priests sanctified themselves.
