耶稣祷告完毕，就带着门徒渡过汲沦溪，进了那里的一个园子。

这时，西门·彼得带着一把刀，他拔刀向大祭司的奴仆马勒古砍去，削掉了他的右耳。

大约一小时之后，又有人指着彼得肯定地说：“这人确实是和耶稣一伙的，因为他也是加利利人。”彼得说：“你这人，我不知道你在说什么！”话才出口，鸡就叫了。

彼得又加以否认。再过了一会儿，旁观的人也指着彼得说：“你一定是跟他们一伙的，因为你也是加利利人！”彼得又赌咒又发誓，说：“我根本不认识你们说的这个人。”

诚实的口永远长存，撒谎的舌转瞬即逝。

过了一会儿，旁边站着的人过来对彼得说：“你肯定也是他们一伙的，听你的口音就知道了。”
