When Jesus said that, one of the officials nearby slapped him in the face.“ Is this any way to answer the high priest?” he asked.

When he had said these things, one of the officers standing by struck Jesus with his hand, saying,“ Is that how you answer the high priest?”

Then one of the Temple guards standing nearby slapped Jesus across the face.“ Is that the way to answer the high priest?” he demanded.

But when He said this, one of the officers, who was standing nearby, struck Jesus, saying,“ Is that the way You answer the high priest?”

When He had said these things, one of the temple police standing by slapped Jesus, saying,“ Is this the way you answer the high priest?”

And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers which stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so?

When Jesus had said this, one of the high priest’s officers who stood nearby struck him on the face and said,“ Is that the way you answer the high priest?”

At this the high priest Ananias ordered those standing near Paul to strike him on the mouth.Then Paul said to him,“ God will strike you, you whitewashed wall! You sit there to judge me according to the law, yet you yourself violate the law by commanding that I be struck!”Those who were standing near Paul said,“ How dare you insult God’s high priest!”Paul replied,“ Brothers, I did not realize that he was the high priest; for it is written:‘ Do not speak evil about the ruler of your people.’”

and went up to him again and again, saying,“ Hail, king of the Jews!” And they slapped him in the face.

They detest me and keep their distance; they do not hesitate to spit in my face.Now that God has unstrung my bow and afflicted me, they throw off restraint in my presence.On my right the tribe attacks; they lay snares for my feet, they build their siege ramps against me.

Then they spit in his face and struck him with their fists. Others slapped himand said,“ Prophesy to us, Messiah. Who hit you?”

The men who were guarding Jesus began mocking and beating him.They blindfolded him and demanded,“ Prophesy! Who hit you?”

Marshal your troops now, city of troops, for a siege is laid against us. They will strike Israel’s ruler on the cheek with a rod.

People open their mouths to jeer at me; they strike my cheek in scorn and unite together against me.

So Judas came to the garden, guiding a detachment of soldiers and some officials from the chief priests and the Pharisees. They were carrying torches, lanterns and weapons.

The Sovereign Lord has opened my ears; I have not been rebellious, I have not turned away.I offered my back to those who beat me, my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard; I did not hide my face from mocking and spitting.Because the Sovereign Lord helps me, I will not be disgraced. Therefore have I set my face like flint, and I know I will not be put to shame.
