Why question me? Ask those who heard me. Surely they know what I said.”

『爾苟為基督、請明以見告。』耶穌曰：『予告爾、爾不信也。

彼等見我正值我獻禮殿中、且已行潔禮、既未聚眾、亦未滋擾。其時惟有來自亞細亞之猶太人在殿、倘若輩有不滿於我、則當來汝前呈訴，即今出庭諸人、如曾見予在公會時有非法不義之舉、亦儘可明告。

時大司祭及全公會、正訊鞠耶穌、共求證言、以成其死罪而不可得。蓋雖有多人誣以妄證、而證言紛紜、莫衷一是。數人起立而為妄證曰：『吾儕親聞彼言、吾將毀此人手所造之殿、而於三日內另建一所、非人手所造者。』然其言亦互有出入、未能一致。

司祭以及公會、方搜覓偽證、以控耶穌、而置之死。其時雖有多人加以偽證、然終難得逞。繼有二人前進曰：

彼等未嘗見予在殿中會中或於城中與人爭辯、或聚集群眾。今所控予諸端、又不能向汝提證。
