“ You are from below,” he told them,“ I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world.Therefore I told you that you will die in your sins. For if you do not believe that I am he, you will die in your sins.”

Watch out, brothers and sisters, so that there won’t be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God.

But you are not willing to come to me so that you may have life.“ I do not accept glory from people,but I know you— that you have no love for God within you.I have come in my Father’s name, and yet you don’t accept me. If someone else comes in his own name, you will accept him.How can you believe, since you accept glory from one another but don’t seek the glory that comes from the only God?

Now we know that whatever the law says, it speaks to those who are subject to the law, so that every mouth may be shut and the whole world may become subject to God’s judgment.For no one will be justified in his sight by the works of the law, because the knowledge of sin comes through the law.

Anyone who disregarded the law of Moses died without mercy, based on the testimony of two or three witnesses.How much worse punishment do you think one will deserve who has trampled on the Son of God, who has regarded as profane the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace?

“ You stiff-necked people with uncircumcised hearts and ears! You are always resisting the Holy Spirit. As your ancestors did, you do also.Which of the prophets did your ancestors not persecute? They even killed those who foretold the coming of the Righteous One, whose betrayers and murderers you have now become.You received the law under the direction of angels and yet have not kept it.”When they heard these things, they were enraged and gnashed their teeth at him.

In fact, I myself was convinced that it was necessary to do many things in opposition to the name of Jesus of Nazareth.I actually did this in Jerusalem, and I locked up many of the saints in prison, since I had received authority for that from the chief priests. When they were put to death, I was in agreement against them.
