But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I am going away. For if I do not go away, the Advocate will not come to you, but if I go, I will send him to you.

But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and will cause you to remember everything I said to you.

When the Advocate comes, whom I will send you from the Father– the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father– he will testify about me,

Then I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you forever–the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot accept, because it does not see him or know him. But you know him, because he resides with you and will be in you.

( Now he said this about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were going to receive, for the Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.)

So then, exalted to the right hand of God, and having received the promise of the Holy Spirit from the Father, he has poured out what you both see and hear.

But because I am telling you the truth, you do not believe me.Who among you can prove me guilty of any sin? If I am telling you the truth, why don’t you believe me?

You ascend on high, you have taken many captives. You receive tribute from men, including even sinful rebels. Indeed the LORD God lives there!

You do not realize that it is more to your advantage to have one man die for the people than for the whole nation to perish.”( Now he did not say this on his own, but because he was high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus was going to die for the Jewish nation,and not for the Jewish nation only, but to gather together into one the children of God who are scattered.)

And we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose,

Then Peter started speaking:“ I now truly understand that God does not show favoritism in dealing with people,

And look, I am sending you what my Father promised. But stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”

You heard me say to you,‘ I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I am.

And if I go and make ready a place for you, I will come again and take you to be with me, so that where I am you may be too.

While he was with them, he declared,“ Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait there for what my Father promised, which you heard about from me.For John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”

Therefore it says,“ When he ascended on high he captured captives; he gave gifts to men.”Now what is the meaning of“ he ascended,” except that he also descended to the lower regions, namely, the earth?He, the very one who descended, is also the one who ascended above all the heavens, in order to fill all things.It was he who gave some as apostles, some as prophets, some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers,to equip the saints for the work of ministry, that is, to build up the body of Christ,until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God– a mature person, attaining to the measure of Christ’s full stature.

For our momentary, light suffering is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison

But I tell you most certainly, there are some standing here who will not experience death before they see the kingdom of God.”

But in truth I tell you, there were many widows in Israel in Elijah’s days, when the sky was shut up three and a half years, and there was a great famine over all the land.
