“ Though I have been speaking figuratively, a time is coming when I will no longer use this kind of language but will tell you plainly about my Father.

“ I have not been speaking to you plainly. But a time is coming when I will speak clearly. Then I will tell you plainly about my Father.

“ I have said these things to you in figures of speech. The hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figures of speech but will tell you plainly about the Father.

“ I have spoken of these matters in figures of speech, but soon I will stop speaking figuratively and will tell you plainly all about the Father.

The disciples came to him and asked,“ Why do you speak to the people in parables?”He replied,“ Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. (niv)

I came from the Father and entered the world; now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father.”Then Jesus’ disciples said,“ Now you are speaking clearly and without figures of speech. (niv)

Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables; he did not say anything to them without using a parable.So was fulfilled what was spoken through the prophet:“ I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter things hidden since the creation of the world.” (niv)

Jesus used this figure of speech, but the Pharisees did not understand what he was telling them. (niv)

Then Jesus said to them,“ Don’t you understand this parable? How then will you understand any parable? (niv)

Therefore, since we have such a hope, we are very bold.We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to prevent the Israelites from seeing the end of what was passing away.But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away.Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts.But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever- increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear.For David did not ascend to heaven, and yet he said,“‘ The Lord said to my Lord:“ Sit at my right handuntil I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.”’“ Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.” (niv)
