人正說「平安穩妥」的時候，災禍忽然臨到他們，如同產難臨到懷胎的婦人一樣，他們絕不能逃脫。

他們必驚惶悲痛；愁苦必將他們抓住。他們疼痛，好像產難的婦人一樣，彼此驚奇相看，臉如火焰。

又對女人說：我必多多加增你懷胎的苦楚；你生產兒女必多受苦楚。你必戀慕你丈夫；你丈夫必管轄你。

因為經上記着：不懷孕、不生養的，你要歡樂；未曾經過產難的，你要高聲歡呼；因為沒有丈夫的，比有丈夫的兒女更多。

他使不能生育的婦人安居家中，為多子的樂母。你們要讚美耶和華！

產婦的疼痛必臨到他身上；他是無智慧之子，到了產期不當遲延。我必救贖他們脫離陰間，救贖他們脫離死亡。死亡啊，你的災害在哪裏呢？陰間哪，你的毀滅在哪裏呢？在我眼前絕無後悔之事。

撒拉說：「神使我喜笑，凡聽見的必與我一同喜笑」；又說：「誰能預先對亞伯拉罕說『撒拉要乳養嬰孩』呢？因為在他年老的時候，我給他生了一個兒子。」

拉結懷孕生子，說：「神除去了我的羞恥」，就給他起名叫約瑟，意思說：「願耶和華再增添我一個兒子。」

錫安的民哪，你要疼痛劬勞，彷彿產難的婦人；因為你必從城裏出來，住在田野，到巴比倫去。在那裏要蒙解救；在那裏耶和華必救贖你脫離仇敵的手。

婦人說：「主啊，我敢在你面前起誓，從前在你這裏站着祈求耶和華的那婦人，就是我。我祈求為要得這孩子；耶和華已將我所求的賜給我了。

她懷了孕，在生產的艱難中疼痛呼叫。天上又現出異象來：有一條大紅龍，七頭十角；七頭上戴着七個冠冕。牠的尾巴拖拉着天上星辰的三分之一，摔在地上。龍就站在那將要生產的婦人面前，等她生產之後，要吞吃她的孩子。婦人生了一個男孩子，是將來要用鐵杖轄管萬國的；她的孩子被提到神寶座那裏去了。

伊利莎白的產期到了，就生了一個兒子。鄰里親族聽見主向她大施憐憫，就和她一同歡樂。
