人正在說平安穩妥的時候，毀滅性的災禍就突然臨到他們，好像生產的痛苦臨到懷胎的婦人一樣，他們絕不能逃脫。

他們都要驚惶失措，疼痛與痛苦必抓住他們；他們必絞痛，像生產中的婦人一樣。他們在驚愕中彼此對望，面色像火燄一般。

耶和華神對女人說：“我要大大增加你懷胎的痛苦，你必在痛苦中生產兒女；你要戀慕你的丈夫，他卻要管轄你。”

因為經上記著說：“不能生育、沒有生養的啊，你要歡欣！沒有受過生產痛苦的啊，你要呼喊，大聲呼叫！因為棄婦比有夫之婦有更多兒子。”

他使不能生育的婦人安居家中，成了有許多兒女的快樂母親。你們要讚美耶和華。

生產的疼痛要臨到他身上，他卻是沒有智慧的人，因為產期到了，他還遲延不破胎而出。我要救贖他們脫離陰間的權勢嗎？救贖他們脫離死亡嗎？死亡啊，你的災害在哪裡？陰間啊，你的毀滅在哪裡？憐憫必從我眼前隱藏起來。

撒拉說：“神使我歡笑，凡聽見的，也必為我歡笑。”又說：“誰能告訴亞伯拉罕，撒拉要乳養兒女呢？在他年老的時候，我竟給他生了一個兒子。”

拉結就懷孕，生了一個兒子，說：“神把我的恥辱除去了。”於是給孩子起名叫約瑟，說：“願耶和華再給我一個兒子。”

耶和華啊！我們在急難中尋求你；你的懲罰臨到我們身上的時候，我們就傾心吐意低聲禱告。懷孕的婦人臨產時怎樣疼痛，在絞痛中喊叫；耶和華啊！我們在你面前也是這樣。我們也曾像懷孕一般疼痛，但所生的像風；我們未曾在地上行過拯救的事，世上的居民也未曾因我們生下來。

錫安的女子啊！你要疼痛劬勞，好像臨產的婦人；因為現在你要從城裡出來，住在田野，一定要到巴比倫去；在那裡你要蒙拯救，在那裡耶和華必救贖你，脫離仇敵的掌握。

婦人說：“我主啊，我敢指著我主的性命起誓，我就是從前在這裡站在你旁邊，向耶和華禱告的那個婦人。那時我祈求為要得這孩子，耶和華已經把我向他所求的賜給我了，

她懷了孕，在生產的痛苦中疼痛呼叫。天上又出現了另一個景象。看哪！有一條大紅龍，有七頭十角，七頭上戴著七個皇冠。牠的尾巴拖著天上三分之一的星辰，把它們摔在地上。龍站在那快要生產的婦人面前，等她生產了，就要吞吃她的孩子。她生了一個男孩子，就是將來要用鐵杖治理列國的。她的孩子被提取到神和他寶座那裡去。

以利沙伯的產期到了，生了一個兒子。鄰里親戚，聽見主向她大施憐憫，都和她一同歡樂。
