“ In a little while you won’t see me anymore. But a little while after that, you will see me again.”

頃之、爾不見我、又頃之、爾復見我、

頃之而爾不見我、復頃之而爾見我、以我歸父也、

未幾爾不見我、又未幾爾復見我、因我歸於父也、

『瞬息之間、而爾不得睹予矣！復一瞬息、而爾又得見予矣！』

Jesus went on to say,“ In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me.”

Jesus continued,“ In a little while, you will no longer see me. Then after a little while, you will see me.”

“ A little while, and you will see me no longer; and again a little while, and you will see me.”

“ In a little while, you will no longer see me; again in a little while, you will see me.”

“ A little while, and you no longer are going to see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me.”

“ A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me, because I go to the Father.”

A little while, and ye behold me no more; and again a little while, and ye shall see me.

“ A little while and you will no longer see Me; again a little while and you will see Me.”

A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father.

In a little while you will see me no longer; again after a little while, you will see me.”

A little while, and you will not see me. Again a little while, and you will see me.”

But Jesus told them,“ I will be with you only a little longer. Then I will return to the one who sent me.

Yes, I came from the Father into the world, and now I will leave the world and return to the Father.”

So you have sorrow now, but I will see you again; then you will rejoice, and no one can rob you of that joy.

but God raised him to life on the third day. Then God allowed him to appear,not to the general public, but to us whom God had chosen in advance to be his witnesses. We were those who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.

During the forty days after he suffered and died, he appeared to the apostles from time to time, and he proved to them in many ways that he was actually alive. And he talked to them about the Kingdom of God.

Jesus replied,“ My light will shine for you just a little longer. Walk in the light while you can, so the darkness will not overtake you. Those who walk in the darkness cannot see where they are going.

When the Lord Jesus had finished talking with them, he was taken up into heaven and sat down in the place of honor at God’s right hand.

Dear children, I will be with you only a little longer. And as I told the Jewish leaders, you will search for me, but you can’t come where I am going.

No, I will not abandon you as orphans— I will come to you.Soon the world will no longer see me, but you will see me. Since I live, you also will live.When I am raised to life again, you will know that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who love me. And because they love me, my Father will love them. And I will love them and reveal myself to each of them.”Judas( not Judas Iscariot, but the other disciple with that name) said to him,“ Lord, why are you going to reveal yourself only to us and not to the world at large?”Jesus replied,“ All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them.Anyone who doesn’t love me will not obey me. And remember, my words are not my own. What I am telling you is from the Father who sent me.

We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.

Some of the disciples asked each other,“ What does he mean when he says,‘ In a little while you won’t see me, but then you will see me,’ and‘ I am going to the Father’?And what does he mean by‘ a little while’? We don’t understand.”Jesus realized they wanted to ask him about it, so he said,“ Are you asking yourselves what I meant? I said in a little while you won’t see me, but a little while after that you will see me again.

That Sunday evening the disciples were meeting behind locked doors because they were afraid of the Jewish leaders. Suddenly, Jesus was standing there among them!“ Peace be with you,” he said.As he spoke, he showed them the wounds in his hands and his side. They were filled with joy when they saw the Lord!Again he said,“ Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you.”Then he breathed on them and said,“ Receive the Holy Spirit.If you forgive anyone’s sins, they are forgiven. If you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”One of the twelve disciples, Thomas( nicknamed the Twin), was not with the others when Jesus came.They told him,“ We have seen the Lord!” But he replied,“ I won’t believe it unless I see the nail wounds in his hands, put my fingers into them, and place my hand into the wound in his side.”Eight days later the disciples were together again, and this time Thomas was with them. The doors were locked; but suddenly, as before, Jesus was standing among them.“ Peace be with you,” he said.Then he said to Thomas,“ Put your finger here, and look at my hands. Put your hand into the wound in my side. Don’t be faithless any longer. Believe!”“ My Lord and my God!” Thomas exclaimed.Then Jesus told him,“ You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me.”

Later, Jesus appeared again to the disciples beside the Sea of Galilee. This is how it happened.Several of the disciples were there— Simon Peter, Thomas( nicknamed the Twin), Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two other disciples.Simon Peter said,“ I’m going fishing.”“ We’ll come, too,” they all said. So they went out in the boat, but they caught nothing all night.At dawn Jesus was standing on the beach, but the disciples couldn’t see who he was.He called out,“ Fellows, have you caught any fish?”“ No,” they replied.Then he said,“ Throw out your net on the right hand side of the boat, and you’ll get some!” So they did, and they couldn’t haul in the net because there were so many fish in it.Then the disciple Jesus loved said to Peter,“ It’s the Lord!” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his tunic( for he had stripped for work), jumped into the water, and headed to shore.The others stayed with the boat and pulled the loaded net to the shore, for they were only about a hundred yards from shore.When they got there, they found breakfast waiting for them— fish cooking over a charcoal fire, and some bread.“ Bring some of the fish you’ve just caught,” Jesus said.So Simon Peter went aboard and dragged the net to the shore. There were 153 large fish, and yet the net hadn’t torn.“ Now come and have some breakfast!” Jesus said. None of the disciples dared to ask him,“ Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord.Then Jesus served them the bread and the fish.This was the third time Jesus had appeared to his disciples since he had been raised from the dead.After breakfast Jesus asked Simon Peter,“ Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?”“ Yes, Lord,” Peter replied,“ you know I love you.”“ Then feed my lambs,” Jesus told him.Jesus repeated the question:“ Simon son of John, do you love me?”“ Yes, Lord,” Peter said,“ you know I love you.”“ Then take care of my sheep,” Jesus said.A third time he asked him,“ Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt that Jesus asked the question a third time. He said,“ Lord, you know everything. You know that I love you.” Jesus said,“ Then feed my sheep.“ I tell you the truth, when you were young, you were able to do as you liked; you dressed yourself and went wherever you wanted to go. But when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and others will dress you and take you where you don’t want to go.”Jesus said this to let him know by what kind of death he would glorify God. Then Jesus told him,“ Follow me.”Peter turned around and saw behind them the disciple Jesus loved— the one who had leaned over to Jesus during supper and asked,“ Lord, who will betray you?”Peter asked Jesus,“ What about him, Lord?”Jesus replied,“ If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? As for you, follow me.”So the rumor spread among the community of believers that this disciple wouldn’t die. But that isn’t what Jesus said at all. He only said,“ If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?”

“ Now I am coming to you. I told them many things while I was with them in this world so they would be filled with my joy.

“ But now I am going away to the one who sent me, and not one of you is asking where I am going.

Now, Father, bring me into the glory we shared before the world began.

He was seen by Peter and then by the Twelve.After that, he was seen by more than 500 of his followers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have died.Then he was seen by James and later by all the apostles.Last of all, as though I had been born at the wrong time, I also saw him.For I am the least of all the apostles. In fact, I’m not even worthy to be called an apostle after the way I persecuted God’s church.

Righteousness is available because I go to the Father, and you will see me no more.

Jesus knew that the Father had given him authority over everything and that he had come from God and would return to God.
