Even now the ax of God’s judgment is poised, ready to sever the roots of the trees. Yes, every tree that does not produce good fruit will be chopped down and thrown into the fire.

Can its wood be used for making things, like pegs to hang up pots and pans?No, it can only be used for fuel, and even as fuel, it burns too quickly.Vines are useless both before and after being put into the fire!“ And this is what the Sovereign Lord says: The people of Jerusalem are like grapevines growing among the trees of the forest. When these people eat with you in your fellowship meals commemorating the Lord’s love, they are like dangerous reefs that can shipwreck you. They are like shameless shepherds who care only for themselves. They are like clouds blowing over the land without giving any rain. They are like trees in autumn that are doubly dead, for they bear no fruit and have been pulled up by the roots.They are like wild waves of the sea, churning up the foam of their shameful deeds. They are like wandering stars, doomed forever to blackest darkness.

There is only the terrible expectation of God’s judgment and the raging fire that will consume his enemies.

that you yourself have planted, this son you have raised for yourself.

but you will be thrown out of your grave like a worthless branch. Like a corpse trampled underfoot, you will be dumped into a mass grave with those killed in battle. You will descend to the pit.
