基督在世为人的时候，曾经声泪俱下地祈求能救祂脱离死亡的上帝。祂因为敬虔而蒙了应允。基督虽然是上帝的儿子，仍然从所受的苦难中学习了顺服。

“我现在心里忧伤，说什么才好呢？求父救我离开这个时刻吗？然而，我原是为这个时刻来的。

父怎样爱我，我也怎样爱你们。你们要常在我的爱中。

所以，基督来到世上的时候曾说：“上帝啊，祭物和供物非你所悦，你为我预备了身体。你并非喜爱燔祭和赎罪祭。于是我说，‘上帝啊，我来是要遵行你的旨意，我的事都记在圣经上了。’”基督首先说：“祭物、供物、燔祭和赎罪祭都不是你想要的，也不是你喜悦的。”这些都是依照律法献上的。然后祂又说：“我来是要遵行你的旨意。”这样，祂废除了前者，为要设立后者。

我的上帝啊，我乐意遵行你的旨意，我铭记你的律法。”

耶稣对彼得说：“收刀入鞘吧！我父赐给我的杯，我怎能不喝呢？”

定睛仰望为我们的信心创始成终的耶稣。祂为了摆在前面的喜乐，就轻看羞辱，忍受了十字架的痛苦，如今已坐在上帝宝座的右边。你们要思想忍受罪人如此顶撞的主，免得疲倦灰心。

耶稣祷告完毕，就带着门徒渡过汲沦溪，进了那里的一个园子。因为耶稣时常带着门徒到那里聚会，所以出卖耶稣的犹大也知道那地方。这时，犹大带着一队士兵以及祭司长和法利赛人的差役，拿着灯笼、火把和兵器来了。耶稣早就知道将要发生在自己身上的一切事，于是出来问他们：“你们找谁？”

起来，我们走吧。看，出卖我的人已经来了！”
