Do not let your hearts be distressed or lacking in courage.You heard me say to you,‘ I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I am.

Why are you depressed, O my soul? Why are you upset? Wait for God! For I will again give thanks to my God for his saving intervention.I am depressed, so I will pray to you while I am trapped here in the region of the upper Jordan, from Hermon, from Mount Mizar.

But Jesus shouted out,“ The one who believes in me does not believe in me, but in the one who sent me,

For this is the will of my Father– for everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him to have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.”

But he said to me,“ My grace is enough for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” So then, I will boast most gladly about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may reside in me.Therefore I am content with weaknesses, with insults, with troubles, with persecutions and difficulties for the sake of Christ, for whenever I am weak, then I am strong.

For this reason I kneel before the Father,from whom every family in heaven and on the earth is named.I pray that according to the wealth of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in the inner person,that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, so that, because you have been rooted and grounded in love,

Therefore, strengthen your listless hands and your weak knees,and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out of joint but be healed.

Through him you now trust in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.

so that no one would be shaken by these afflictions. For you yourselves know that we are destined for this.For in fact when we were with you, we were telling you in advance that we would suffer affliction, and so it has happened, as you well know.

We are experiencing trouble on every side, but are not crushed; we are perplexed, but not driven to despair;we are persecuted, but not abandoned; we are knocked down, but not destroyed,always carrying around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be made visible in our body.

so that we, who were the first to set our hope on Christ, would be to the praise of his glory.And when you heard the word of truth( the gospel of your salvation)– when you believed in Christ– you were marked with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit,

Now, this is what the LORD says, the one who created you, O Jacob, and formed you, O Israel:“ Don’t be afraid, for I will protect you. I call you by name, you are mine.When you pass through the waters, I am with you; when you pass through the streams, they will not overwhelm you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not harm you.

not to be easily shaken from your composure or disturbed by any kind of spirit or message or letter allegedly from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord is already here.

You killed the Originator of life, whom God raised from the dead. To this fact we are witnesses!And on the basis of faith in Jesus’ name, his very name has made this man– whom you see and know– strong. The faith that is through Jesus has given him this complete health in the presence of you all.

I am telling you this now, before it happens, so that when it happens you may believe that I am he.

Jesus said to her,“ I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live even if he dies,and the one who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”She replied,“ Yes, Lord, I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God who comes into the world.”

Everyone who denies the Son does not have the Father either. The person who confesses the Son has the Father also.As for you, what you have heard from the beginning must remain in you. If what you heard from the beginning remains in you, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father.

By day the LORD decrees his loyal love, and by night he gives me a song, a prayer to the living God.I will pray to God, my high ridge:“ Why do you ignore me? Why must I walk around mourning because my enemies oppress me?”My enemies’ taunts cut into me to the bone, as they say to me all day long,“ Where is your God?”Why are you depressed, O my soul? Why are you upset? Wait for God! For I will again give thanks to my God for his saving intervention.

so that now instead you should rather forgive and comfort him. This will keep him from being overwhelmed by excessive grief to the point of despair.

Then I said,“ There is no cure for my grief! I am sick at heart!

For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints,

In my time of trouble I sought the Lord. I kept my hand raised in prayer throughout the night. I refused to be comforted.I said,“ I will remember God while I groan; I will think about him while my strength leaves me.”( Selah)

Is my complaint against a man? If so, why should I not be impatient?Look at me and be appalled; put your hands over your mouths.For, when I think about this, I am terrified and my body feels a shudder.

Instead your hearts are filled with sadness because I have said these things to you.

That is why I am terrified in his presence; when I consider, I am afraid because of him.Indeed, God has made my heart faint; the Almighty has terrified me.

When Jesus saw her weeping, and the people who had come with her weeping, he was intensely moved in spirit and greatly distressed.

I am deprived of peace; I have forgotten what happiness is.So I said,“ My endurance has expired; I have lost all hope of deliverance from the Lord.”ז( Zayin)Remember my impoverished and homeless condition, which is a bitter poison.I continually think about this, and I am depressed.But this I call to mind; therefore I have hope:ח( Khet)The LORD’s loyal kindness never ceases; his compassions never end.They are fresh every morning; your faithfulness is abundant!

“ Now my soul is greatly distressed. And what should I say?‘ Father, deliver me from this hour’? No, but for this very reason I have come to this hour.

They will do these things because they have not known the Father or me.

Then I said,“ I am sickened by the thought that the sovereign One might become inactive.

so that all people will honor the Son just as they honor the Father. The one who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.
