Holy Father, you have given me your name; now protect them by the power of your name so that they will be united just as we are.

It was now almost time for the Jewish Passover celebration, and many people from all over the country arrived in Jerusalem several days early so they could go through the purification ceremony before Passover began.

After saying all these things, Jesus looked up to heaven and said,“ Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son so he can give glory back to you.

Jesus fully realized all that was going to happen to him, so he stepped forward to meet them.“ Who are you looking for?” he asked.

“ I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love.When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in his love.

Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

I have revealed you to them, and I will continue to do so. Then your love for me will be in them, and I will be in them.”

It was now two days before Passover and the Festival of Unleavened Bread. The leading priests and the teachers of religious law were still looking for an opportunity to capture Jesus secretly and kill him.“ But not during the Passover celebration,” they agreed,“ or the people may riot.”

Remember what I told you: I am going away, but I will come back to you again. If you really loved me, you would be happy that I am going to the Father, who is greater than I am.

“ As you know, Passover begins in two days, and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.”At that same time the leading priests and elders were meeting at the residence of Caiaphas, the high priest,plotting how to capture Jesus secretly and kill him.“ But not during the Passover celebration,” they agreed,“ or the people may riot.”

Then he came to the disciples and said,“ Go ahead and sleep. Have your rest. But look— the time has come. The Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

The Festival of Unleavened Bread, which is also called Passover, was approaching.The leading priests and teachers of religious law were plotting how to kill Jesus, but they were afraid of the people’s reaction.

Jesus replied,“ There are twelve hours of daylight every day. During the day people can walk safely. They can see because they have the light of this world.But at night there is danger of stumbling because they have no light.”

Then the leaders tried to arrest him; but no one laid a hand on him, because his time had not yet come.

“ But now I am going away to the one who sent me, and not one of you is asking where I am going.Instead, you grieve because of what I’ve told you.But in fact, it is best for you that I go away, because if I don’t, the Advocate won’t come. If I do go away, then I will send him to you.

Jesus made these statements while he was teaching in the section of the Temple known as the Treasury. But he was not arrested, because his time had not yet come.

But Christ, as the Son, is in charge of God’s entire house. And we are God’s house, if we keep our courage and remain confident in our hope in Christ.

Why didn’t you arrest me in the Temple? I was there every day. But this is your moment, the time when the power of darkness reigns.”

Now, Father, bring me into the glory we shared before the world began.

For if we are faithful to the end, trusting God just as firmly as when we first believed, we will share in all that belongs to Christ.

Jesus replied,“ Now is not the right time for me to go, but you can go anytime.

So prepare your minds for action and exercise self control. Put all your hope in the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world.

Jesus replied,“ Go tell that fox that I will keep on casting out demons and healing people today and tomorrow; and the third day I will accomplish my purpose.Yes, today, tomorrow, and the next day I must proceed on my way. For it wouldn’t do for a prophet of God to be killed except in Jerusalem!

As the time drew near for him to ascend to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem.

“ Now I am coming to you. I told them many things while I was with them in this world so they would be filled with my joy.I have given them your word. And the world hates them because they do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world.

Long ago the Lord said to Israel:“ I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love. With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself.

There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.You are my friends if you do what I command.

He will keep you strong to the end so that you will be free from all blame on the day when our Lord Jesus Christ returns.

No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.
