I came from the Father and entered the world. Now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father.”

May grace and peace come to you from Jesus Christ. He is the faithful witness, so what he has shown can be trusted. He was the first to rise from the dead. He rules over the kings of the earth. Glory and power belong to Jesus Christ who loves us! He has set us free from our sins by pouring out his blood for us.

Husbands, love your wives. Love them just as Christ loved the church. He gave himself up for her.He did it to make her holy. He made her clean by washing her with water and the word.

They do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to it.

We love because he loved us first.

We want each of you to be faithful to the very end. If you are, then what you hope for will fully happen.

I pray for them. I am not praying for the world. I am praying for those you have given me, because they are yours.All I have is yours, and all you have is mine. Glory has come to me because of my disciples.I will not remain in the world any longer. But they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them safe by the power of your name. It is the name you gave me. Keep them safe so they can be one, just as you and I are one.

The Jewish Passover Feast was near.

It was almost time for the Jewish Passover Feast. Many people went up from the country to Jerusalem. They went there for the special washing that would make them pure before the Passover Feast.

After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed. He said,“ Father, the time has come. Bring glory to your Son. Then your Son will bring glory to you.

Jesus knew everything that was going to happen to him. So he went out and asked them,“ Who do you want?”

“ Just as the Father has loved me, I have loved you. Now remain in my love.If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love. In the same way, I have obeyed my Father’s commands and remain in his love.

Teach them to obey everything I have commanded you. And you can be sure that I am always with you, to the very end.”

I have shown you to them. And I will continue to show you to them. Then the love you have for me will be in them. I myself will be in them.”

The Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread were only two days away. The chief priests and the teachers of the law were plotting to arrest Jesus secretly. They wanted to kill him.“ But not during the feast,” they said.“ The people may stir up trouble.”

“ You heard me say,‘ I am going away. And I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad I am going to the Father. The Father is greater than I am.

“ As you know, the Passover Feast is two days away. The Son of Man will be handed over to be nailed to a cross.”Then the chief priests met with the elders of the people. They met in the palace of Caiaphas, the high priest.They made plans to arrest Jesus secretly. They wanted to kill him.“ But not during the feast,” they said.“ The people may stir up trouble.”

Then he returned to the disciples. He said to them,“ Are you still sleeping and resting? Look! The hour has come. The Son of Man is about to be handed over to sinners.

The Feast of Unleavened Bread, called the Passover, was near.The chief priests and the teachers of the law were looking for a way to get rid of Jesus. They were afraid of the people.

Jesus answered,“ Aren’t there 12 hours of daylight? Anyone who walks during the day won’t trip and fall. They can see because of this world’s light.But when they walk at night, they’ll trip and fall. They have no light.”

When he said this, they tried to arrest him. But no one laid a hand on him. The time for him to show who he really was had not yet come.

But now I am going to the one who sent me. None of you asks me,‘ Where are you going?’Instead, you are filled with sadness because I have said these things.But what I’m about to tell you is true. It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Friend will not come to help you. But if I go, I will send him to you.

He spoke these words while he was teaching in the temple courtyard. He was near the place where the offerings were put. But no one arrested him. That’s because the time for him to die had not yet come.

But Christ is faithful as the Son over the house of God. And we are his house if we hold tightly to what we are certain about. We must also hold tightly to the hope we boast in.

Every day I was with you in the temple courtyard. And you didn’t lay a hand on me. But this is your hour. This is when darkness rules.”

So now, Father, give glory to me in heaven where your throne is. Give me the glory I had with you before the world began.

We belong to Christ if we hold tightly to the faith we had at first. But we must hold it tightly until the end.

So Jesus told them,“ The time for me to show who I really am is not here yet. For you, any time would be the right time.

So be watchful, and control yourselves completely. In this way, put your hope in the grace that lies ahead. This grace will be brought to you when Jesus Christ returns.

He replied,“ Go and tell that fox,‘ I will keep on driving out demons. I will keep on healing people today and tomorrow. And on the third day I will reach my goal.’In any case, I must keep going today and tomorrow and the next day. Certainly no prophet can die outside Jerusalem!

The time grew near for Jesus to be taken up to heaven. So he made up his mind to go to Jerusalem.

“ I am coming to you now. But I say these things while I am still in the world. I say them so that those you gave me can have the same joy that I have.I have given them your word. The world has hated them. That’s because they are not part of the world any more than I am.

The Lord appeared to us in the past. He said,“ I have loved you with a love that lasts forever. I have kept on loving you with a kindness that never fails.

No one has greater love than the one who gives their life for their friends.You are my friends if you do what I command.

God will also keep you strong in faith to the very end. Then you will be without blame on the day our Lord Jesus Christ returns.

No! In all these things we are more than winners! We owe it all to Christ, who has loved us.
