然官紳中亦頗有信耶穌者、惟礙於法利塞人、故不敢公然認之、恐被逐於會堂也。

Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not openly acknowledge their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue;

At the same time that Jesus did those signs, many of the Jewish leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees, they would not openly admit they believed. They were afraid they would be thrown out of the synagogue.

Nevertheless, many even of the authorities believed in him, but for fear of the Pharisees they did not confess it, so that they would not be put out of the synagogue;

Many people did believe in him, however, including some of the Jewish leaders. But they wouldn’t admit it for fear that the Pharisees would expel them from the synagogue.

However, no one spoke openly of Him for fear of the Jews.

His parents said these things because they feared the Jews, for the Jews had agreed already that if anyone confessed that He was Christ, he would be put out of the synagogue.

The fear of man brings a snare, But whoever trusts in the Lord shall be safe.

“ Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven.

This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him,“ Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.”

By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God,

Then many of the Jews who had come to Mary, and had seen the things Jesus did, believed in Him.

because on account of him many of the Jews went away and believed in Jesus.

They answered and said to him,“ You were completely born in sins, and are you teaching us?” And they cast him out.

Have any of the rulers or the Pharisees believed in Him?But this crowd that does not know the law is accursed.”Nicodemus( he who came to Jesus by night, being one of them) said to them,“ Does our law judge a man before it hears him and knows what he is doing?”

Blessed are you when men hate you, And when they exclude you, And revile you, and cast out your name as evil, For the Son of Man’s sake.

Hear the word of the Lord, You who tremble at His word:“ Your brethren who hated you, Who cast you out for My name’s sake, said,‘ Let the Lord be glorified, That we may see your joy.’ But they shall be ashamed.”

So they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for His name.

Now Peter sat outside in the courtyard. And a servant girl came to him, saying,“ You also were with Jesus of Galilee.”But he denied it before them all, saying,“ I do not know what you are saying.”And when he had gone out to the gateway, another girl saw him and said to those who were there,“ This fellow also was with Jesus of Nazareth.”But again he denied with an oath,“ I do not know the Man!”And a little later those who stood by came up and said to Peter,“ Surely you also are one of them, for your speech betrays you.”Then he began to curse and swear, saying,“ I do not know the Man!” Immediately a rooster crowed.And Peter remembered the word of Jesus who had said to him,“ Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.” So he went out and wept bitterly.

“ Also I say to you, whoever confesses Me before men, him the Son of Man also will confess before the angels of God.

They will put you out of the synagogues; yes, the time is coming that whoever kills you will think that he offers God service.

For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

After this, Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly, for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus; and Pilate gave him permission. So he came and took the body of Jesus.

“ And of whom have you been afraid, or feared, That you have lied And not remembered Me, Nor taken it to your heart? Is it not because I have held My peace from of old That you do not fear Me?

Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you;but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy.If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. On their part He is blasphemed, but on your part He is glorified.But let none of you suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer, or as a busybody in other people’s matters.Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in this matter.

Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.
