Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not openly acknowledge their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue;

At the same time that Jesus did those signs, many of the Jewish leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees, they would not openly admit they believed. They were afraid they would be thrown out of the synagogue.

Nevertheless, many even of the authorities believed in him, but for fear of the Pharisees they did not confess it, so that they would not be put out of the synagogue;

Many people did believe in him, however, including some of the Jewish leaders. But they wouldn’t admit it for fear that the Pharisees would expel them from the synagogue.

However, no one spoke openly about him for fear of the Jewish leaders.

( His parents said these things because they were afraid of the Jewish religious leaders. For the Jewish leaders had already agreed that anyone who confessed Jesus to be the Christ would be put out of the synagogue.

The fear of people becomes a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD will be set on high.

“ Whoever, then, acknowledges me before people, I will acknowledge before my Father in heaven.

came to Jesus at night and said to him,“ Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the miraculous signs that you do unless God is with him.”

By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses Jesus as the Christ who has come in the flesh is from God,

Then many of the people, who had come with Mary and had seen the things Jesus did, believed in him.

for on account of him many of the Jewish people from Jerusalem were going away and believing in Jesus.

They replied,“ You were born completely in sinfulness, and yet you presume to teach us?” So they threw him out.

None of the rulers or the Pharisees have believed in him, have they?But this rabble who do not know the law are accursed!”Nicodemus, who had gone to Jesus before and who was one of the rulers, said,“ Our law doesn’t condemn a man unless it first hears from him and learns what he is doing, does it?”

“ Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude you and insult you and reject you as evil on account of the Son of Man!

Hear the word of the LORD, you who respect what he has to say! Your countrymen, who hate you and exclude you, supposedly for the sake of my name, say,“ May the LORD be glorified, then we will witness your joy.” But they will be put to shame.

So they left the council rejoicing because they had been considered worthy to suffer dishonor for the sake of the name.

Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard. A slave girl came to him and said,“ You also were with Jesus the Galilean.”But he denied it in front of them all:“ I don’t know what you’re talking about!”When he went out to the gateway, another slave girl saw him and said to the people there,“ This man was with Jesus the Nazarene.”He denied it again with an oath,“ I do not know the man!”After a little while, those standing there came up to Peter and said,“ You really are one of them too– even your accent gives you away!”At that he began to curse, and he swore with an oath,“ I do not know the man!” At that moment a rooster crowed.Then Peter remembered what Jesus had said:“ Before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.” And he went outside and wept bitterly.

“ I tell you, whoever acknowledges me before men, the Son of Man will also acknowledge before God’s angels.

They will put you out of the synagogue, yet a time is coming when the one who kills you will think he is offering service to God.

For with the heart one believes and thus has righteousness and with the mouth one confesses and thus has salvation.

After this, Joseph of Arimathea, a disciple of Jesus( but secretly, because he feared the Jewish leaders), asked Pilate if he could remove the body of Jesus. Pilate gave him permission, so he went and took the body away.

Whom are you worried about? Whom do you fear, that you would act so deceitfully and not remember me or think about me? Because I have been silent for so long, you are not afraid of me.

Dear friends, do not be astonished that a trial by fire is occurring among you, as though something strange were happening to you.But rejoice in the degree that you have shared in the sufferings of Christ, so that when his glory is revealed you may also rejoice and be glad.If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory, who is the Spirit of God, rests on you.But let none of you suffer as a murderer or thief or criminal or as a troublemaker.But if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but glorify God that you bear such a name.

If anyone confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God resides in him and he in God.
