“ The Lord has blinded their eyes. He has closed their minds. So they can’t see with their eyes. They can’t understand with their minds. They can’t turn to the Lord. If they could, he would heal them.”( Isaiah 6:10)

『主把他們的眼弄瞎了。使他們的心頑梗不化，省得他們用眼看見，用心了悟，回轉過來，而我醫治他們！』（

主瞽其目、頑其心、恐其目見心悟、轉移而我醫之、

以賽亞復云、彼任其目瞽、心頑、免目明心悟、遷改而我醫之、

主使其目瞽心頑、免其目明心悟、悔改而我醫之、

『主已蒙其目、主已頑其心、恐其目有見、恐其心有靈、恐其即回頭、令吾全其生。』

“ He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, so they can neither see with their eyes, nor understand with their hearts, nor turn— and I would heal them.”

“ He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, lest they see with their eyes, and understand with their heart, and turn, and I would heal them.”

“ The Lord has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts— so that their eyes cannot see, and their hearts cannot understand, and they cannot turn to me and have me heal them.”

Make the hearts of these people stubborn. Plug up their ears. Close their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes. They might hear with their ears. They might understand with their hearts. And they might turn to me and be healed.”

Here is why I use stories when I speak to the people. I say,“ They look, but they don’t really see. They listen, but they don’t really hear or understand.In them the words of the prophet Isaiah come true. He said,“‘ You will hear but never understand. You will see but never know what you are seeing.The hearts of these people have become stubborn. They can barely hear with their ears. They have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes. They might hear with their ears. They might understand with their hearts. They might turn to the Lord, and then he would heal them.’( Isaiah 6:9, 10)

He said,“ You have been given the chance to understand the secrets of God’s kingdom. But to outsiders I speak by using stories. In that way,“‘ They see, but they will not know what they are seeing. They hear, but they will not understand what they are hearing.’( Isaiah 6:9)

Jesus said,“ I have come into this world to judge it. I have come so that people who are blind will see. I have come so that people who can see will become blind.”

In that way,“‘ They will see but never know what they are seeing. They will hear but never understand. Otherwise they might turn and be forgiven!’ ”( Isaiah 6:9, 10)

The people of Israel serve me. But who is more blind than they are? Who is more deaf than the messengers I send? Who is more blind than the one who has promised to be faithful to me? Who is more blind than the servant of the Lord?Israel, you have seen many things. But you do not pay any attention to me. Your ears are open. But you do not listen to anything I say.”

Lord, have mercy on me. I’m so weak. Lord, heal me. My body is full of pain.

I said,“ Lord, have mercy on me. Heal me, because I have sinned against you.”

The people say,“ Come. Let us return to the Lord. He has torn us to pieces. But he will heal us. He has wounded us. But he’ll bandage our wounds.

The Lord has made you fall into a deep sleep. He has closed the eyes of your prophets. He has covered the heads of your seers so they can’t see.

Then the Lord will answer,“ My people always wander away from me. But I will put an end to that. My anger has turned away from them. Now I will love them freely.

He heals those who have broken hearts. He takes care of their wounds.

“ You have not been faithful,” says the Lord.“ Return to me. I will heal you. Then you will not turn away from me anymore.”“ Yes,” the people say.“ We will come to you. You are the Lord our God.

I have seen what they have done. But I will heal them. I will guide them. I will give those who mourn in Israel the comfort they had before.Then they will praise me. I will give perfect peace to those who are far away and those who are near. And I will heal them,” says the Lord.

But to this day the Lord hasn’t given you a mind that understands. He hasn’t given you eyes that see. He hasn’t given you ears that hear.

The Lord himself made their people stubborn. He made them go to war against Israel so he could totally destroy them. He wanted to wipe them out. He didn’t show them any mercy. The Lord had commanded Moses to destroy the Canaanites.

So God does what he wants to do. He shows mercy to one person and makes another stubborn.

“‘ Go to your people. Say to them,“ You will hear but never understand. You will see but never know what you are seeing.”

‘ Listen to this, you foolish people, who do not have any sense. You have eyes, but you do not see. You have ears, but you do not hear.

I will make Pharaoh stubborn. He will chase them. But I will gain glory for myself because of what will happen to Pharaoh and his whole army. And the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord.” So the Israelites camped by the Red Sea.

“ Son of man, you are living among people who refuse to obey me. They have eyes that can see. But they do not really see. They have ears that can hear. But they do not really hear. They refuse to obey me.

In spite of that, Pharaoh became stubborn. He wouldn’t listen to them, just as the Lord had said.

What should we say then? The people of Israel did not receive what they wanted so badly. Those Israelites who were chosen did receive it. But the rest of the people were made stubborn.It is written,“ God made it hard for them to understand. He gave them eyes that could not see. He gave them ears that could not hear. And they are still like that today.”( Deuteronomy 29:4; Isaiah 29:10)David says,“ Let their feast be a trap and a snare. Let them trip and fall. Let them get what’s coming to them.Let their eyes grow dark so they can’t see. Let their backs be bent forever.”( Psalm 69:22, 23)Again, here is what I ask. The Israelites didn’t trip and fall once and for all time, did they? Not at all! Because Israel sinned, the Gentiles can be saved. That will make Israel jealous of them.

Jesus knew what they were saying. So he asked them,“ Why are you talking about having no bread? Why can’t you see or understand? Are you stubborn?Do you have eyes and still don’t see? Do you have ears and still don’t hear? And don’t you remember?

Leave the Pharisees. They are blind guides. If one blind person leads another blind person, both of them will fall into a pit.”

But the servant was pierced because we had sinned. He was crushed because we had done what was evil. He was punished to make us whole again. His wounds have healed us.

The church sent them on their way. They traveled through Phoenicia and Samaria. There they told how the Gentiles had turned to God. This news made all the believers very glad.

“ The Spirit of the Lord is on me. He has anointed me to announce the good news to poor people. He has sent me to announce freedom for prisoners. He has sent me so that the blind will see again. He wants me to set free those who are treated badly.

The Lord made Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, stubborn. So he chased the Israelites as they were marching out boldly.

“‘ “Suppose that prophet is stirred up to give a prophecy. Then I am the one who has stirred him up. And I will reach out my powerful hand against him. I will destroy him from among my people Israel.

My brothers and sisters, suppose one of you wanders away from the truth. And suppose someone brings that person back.Then here is what I want you to remember. Anyone who keeps a sinner from going astray will save them from death. God will erase many sins by forgiving them.

But I will make Pharaoh stubborn. I will multiply the signs and amazing things I will do in Egypt.

The Lord said,‘ Who will get Ahab to attack Ramoth Gilead? I want him to die there.’“ One angel suggested one thing. Another suggested something else.

So turn away from your sins. Turn to God. Then your sins will be wiped away. The time will come when the Lord will make everything new.

They had not understood about the loaves. They were stubborn.

I will make the Egyptians stubborn. They will go in after the Israelites. I will gain glory for myself because of what will happen to Pharaoh, his army, chariots and horsemen.

He destroyed many nations. He killed mighty kings.He killed Sihon, the king of the Amorites, and Og, the king of Bashan. He killed all the kings of Canaan.He gave their land as a gift to his people Israel.Lord, your name continues forever. Lord, your fame will last for all time to come.When the Lord hands down his sentence, it will be in his people’s favor. He will show deep concern for those who serve him.The statues of the nations’ gods are made out of silver and gold. They are made by human hands.They have mouths but can’t speak. They have eyes but can’t see.They have ears but can’t hear. They have mouths but can’t breathe.Those who make statues of gods will be like them. So will all those who trust in them.

The Lord spoke to Moses. He said,“ When you return to Egypt, do all the amazing things I have given you the power to do. Do them in the sight of Pharaoh. But I will make him stubborn. He will not let the people go.

Lord, you have raised your hand high to punish them. But they don’t even see it. Let them see how much you love your people. Then they will be put to shame. Let the fire you are saving for your enemies burn them up.
