他們因此拿起石頭要砸他。耶穌卻被隱藏，離開了聖殿。

「於是主人因這個不義的管家做事精明，就稱讚他。這樣看來，今世的兒女在自己的世代裡，比光明的兒女還要聰明。

你們從前原是黑暗，但如今在主裡就是光；你們要像屬於光的兒女行走，

因為你們都是光明的兒女，白晝的兒女。我們不屬於黑夜，也不屬於黑暗。

因為主是這樣吩咐我們的：『我已經指派你為外邦人的光，使你把救恩帶到地極。』」外邦人聽了這話就感到歡喜，不住地榮耀主的福音，凡是被預定進入永恆生命的人都信了。

錫安哪，起來，發出亮光！因為你的光已經來到，耶和華的榮耀已經在你上面升起。

他為見證而來，是要為這光做見證，好讓人都藉著他相信。

但我們既然屬於白晝，就讓我們謹慎，以信與愛做為護胸甲穿上，以救恩的盼望做為頭盔戴上。

因此，耶穌不再公開地在猶太人當中行事，而是離開那裡，到曠野附近的地方，進了一個叫以法蓮的城，在那裡與門徒們住下了。

但行真理的人，卻來到光那裡，為了顯明自己所做的是在神裡面被做成的。」

於是他們又試圖抓耶穌，他卻從他們的手中脫離出來。耶穌又前往約旦河對岸，到約翰當初施洗的地方，住在那裡。

那說自己在光裡卻恨自己弟兄的，至今還在黑暗裡；那愛自己弟兄的，就住在光裡，而且在他裡面沒有什麼絆腳的事；但那恨自己弟兄的，就是在黑暗裡，並且在黑暗裡行走，也不知道自己往哪裡去，因為黑暗使他的眼睛瞎了。

然後，耶穌離開他們，出城到伯大尼去，在那裡過夜。
