Then Jesus told them,“ You are going to have the light just a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, before darkness overtakes you. Whoever walks in the dark does not know where they are going.

I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said,“ I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light

Give glory to the Lord your God before he brings the darkness, before your feet stumble on the darkening hills. You hope for light, but he will turn it to utter darkness and change it to deep gloom.If you do not listen, I will weep in secret because of your pride; my eyes will weep bitterly, overflowing with tears, because the Lord’s flock will be taken captive.

It is when a person walks at night that they stumble, for they have no light.”

If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth.But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

Jesus said,“ I am with you for only a short time, and then I am going to the one who sent me.

Believe in the light while you have the light, so that you may become children of light.” When he had finished speaking, Jesus left and hid himself from them.

You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness.So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober.For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night.But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.

As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work.While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”

“ I, the Lord, have called you in righteousness; I will take hold of your hand. I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles,to open eyes that are blind, to free captives from prison and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness.

Come, descendants of Jacob, let us walk in the light of the Lord.

For this reason they could not believe, because, as Isaiah says elsewhere:“ He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, so they can neither see with their eyes, nor understand with their hearts, nor turn— and I would heal them.”

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.There was a man sent from God whose name was John.He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe.He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.

What then? What the people of Israel sought so earnestly they did not obtain. The elect among them did, but the others were hardened,as it is written:“ God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that could not see and ears that could not hear, to this very day.”And David says:“ May their table become a snare and a trap, a stumbling block and a retribution for them.May their eyes be darkened so they cannot see, and their backs be bent forever.”

But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away.

Yet I am writing you a new command; its truth is seen in him and in you, because the darkness is passing and the true light is already shining.Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness.Anyone who loves their brother and sister lives in the light, and there is nothing in them to make them stumble.But anyone who hates a brother or sister is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness. They do not know where they are going, because the darkness has blinded them.

May the table set before them become a snare; may it become retribution and a trap.May their eyes be darkened so they cannot see, and their backs be bent forever.Pour out your wrath on them; let your fierce anger overtake them.May their place be deserted; let there be no one to dwell in their tents.For they persecute those you wound and talk about the pain of those you hurt.Charge them with crime upon crime; do not let them share in your salvation.May they be blotted out of the book of life and not be listed with the righteous.

The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy.Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.

This is why it is said:“ Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”Be very careful, then, how you live— not as unwise but as wise,

But the way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble.

So, as the Holy Spirit says:“ Today, if you hear his voice,do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion, during the time of testing in the wilderness,
