Therefore Mary took a pound of ointment of pure nard, very precious, and anointed Jesus’s feet and wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the ointment.

This is the Mary who later poured the expensive perfume on the Lord’s feet and wiped them with her hair. Her brother, Lazarus, was sick.

Meanwhile, Jesus was in Bethany at the home of Simon, a man who had previously had leprosy. While he was eating, a woman came in with a beautiful alabaster jar of expensive perfume made from essence of nard. She broke open the jar and poured the perfume over his head.Some of those at the table were indignant.“ Why waste such expensive perfume?” they asked.“ It could have been sold for a year’s wages and the money given to the poor!” So they scolded her harshly.But Jesus replied,“ Leave her alone. Why criticize her for doing such a good thing to me?You will always have the poor among you, and you can help them whenever you want to. But you will not always have me.She has done what she could and has anointed my body for burial ahead of time.I tell you the truth, wherever the Good News is preached throughout the world, this woman’s deed will be remembered and discussed.”

As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home.Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught.

When a certain immoral woman from that city heard he was eating there, she brought a beautiful alabaster jar filled with expensive perfume.Then she knelt behind him at his feet, weeping. Her tears fell on his feet, and she wiped them off with her hair. Then she kept kissing his feet and putting perfume on them.

When Mary arrived and saw Jesus, she fell at his feet and said,“ Lord, if only you had been here, my brother would not have died.”

You neglected the courtesy of olive oil to anoint my head, but she has anointed my feet with rare perfume.

Meanwhile, Jesus was in Bethany at the home of Simon, a man who had previously had leprosy.While he was eating, a woman came in with a beautiful alabaster jar of expensive perfume and poured it over his head.The disciples were indignant when they saw this.“ What a waste!” they said.“ It could have been sold for a high price and the money given to the poor.”But Jesus, aware of this, replied,“ Why criticize this woman for doing such a good thing to me?You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me.She has poured this perfume on me to prepare my body for burial.I tell you the truth, wherever the Good News is preached throughout the world, this woman’s deed will be remembered and discussed.”

Then she returned to Mary. She called Mary aside from the mourners and told her,“ The Teacher is here and wants to see you.”

Your thighs shelter a paradise of pomegranates with rare spices— henna with nard,nard and saffron, fragrant calamus and cinnamon, with all the trees of frankincense, myrrh, and aloes, and every other lovely spice.

The king is lying on his couch, enchanted by the fragrance of my perfume.

How pleasing is your fragrance; your name is like the spreading fragrance of scented oils. No wonder all the young women love you!

He made a solemn promise to the Lord. He vowed to the Mighty One of Israel,

Your love delights me, my treasure, my bride. Your love is better than wine, your perfume more fragrant than spices.
